I sent out my application for a Florida non-resident CCW permit on July 24th, and I have absolutely no idea what the typical turn around/processing time is for Florida. I have had people tell me 30 days, and some people have told me 90 days. When should I expect to receive it? The anticipation is killing me.

With electronic fingerprinting it's said to be 2 to 4 weeks. With regular fingerprinting I believe it's generally 6 to 8 weeks and 90 days being the most it will be before you should get some kind of response.

I'm not really sure of real world turn around as I sent in mine this last Monday with my fingerprints done electronically the Thursday before. It's a resident license being sent out of state.

Try giving them a call. I think this is their number.

850-478-5139.

Tell you are calling about the status of the license. If they ask tell them it is a concealed weapons license. You can also ask them what the "W" number is if they have created it yet. Once they tell you the number, you can call back and check again. I remember sending off my paperwork and I mailed it sometime in August and it came back towards the end of October. It all depends on how busy they are. I also remember when I called one time, the lady told me that every body in the office was out with the flu and she was the only one there. this was in 2003.

Did you do the electronic prints?? That helps cut down the waiting time dramatically..

My original Fla. license took about a month or so and the renewal earlier this year took about the same amount of time, maybe a week less.

I took the normal path. No electronic finger printing. Sent in all my info to Fl. Dept. of Agriculture and they took about 10 days to enter my information and send fingerprints off to FBI for check. From that point it was 8 weeks for FBI to come back with an "all clear" for my check. All in all, 10 weeks and a few days. Just under the 90 day.

My picture for my CCW looks bad. Can I get this redone?

I got my non-resident with regular finger printing (not electronic) in appox. 45 days. Within the 45 days, I had to sent them a second copy of the finger print card.

Hope it helps...........

My original (2002) FL non-res permit took 42 days, mailbox to mailbox. I just renewed it last month, and the renewal took only 21 days, mailbox to mailbox. I mailed it (standard 1st class mail) on July 13th... plenty of time before the Sept 19th expiration date of my permit. To my surprise, my new permit showed up in my mailbox exactly 3 weeks later, on Aug. 3nd.

BTW... both times was with non-electronic fingerprints.

Mailed out on 03/08/07. Received back on 05/04/07. Regular print cards.

I suggest you use the electronic finger prints. This will cut the time to under a month, They say 2-4 weeks. Most Sheriff Offices can do it for you. I wish I would have done it that way!!!

How ever long it takes the Feds to send it back. AS long as you dont have a record, then you should have it soon. Let us know.

The only "record" I'd have is a speeding ticket 4 years ago and a suspension in high school for leaving campus for lunch, haha. I hope my UBG holster comes in around the same time that I get the permit!

I was under the impression that if the state takes longer than 90 days, there has to be a reason as in something questionable came up. Other than that if Fl. Dept. of Agri. came up with nothing and FBI is taking to long, when that 90 days hits they have to issue no matter what.

I may be wrong, but I'm almost 99.998% positive that's what I read.

Filed with e-prints and it took 14 working days (17 actual calendar days).

dunno... it's wierd how all the laws work but I dont think the FBI cares they just want your prints/pic, they leave it up to the state to decide your fate???
but with me at least I see a trend... in NY the maximum wait is 6 mths...
recieved to the day 7mths,
and FL max is 3mths but received in 4 mths to the day

so when the states say they must notify you after wait time expires is load imo... think they test your patience

I tried checking the status of my application by the number posted above 850-478-5139.

The number has been disconnected. Does anyone have the new number?

How do you go about doing the electronic fingerprinting? They sent me the regular card. I just got it today.

You can only do the electronic fingerprinting if you are in FL and can go to the select few places that have the technology in place for it.

That sux! I know I could get it done on base here, too! Oh well. Guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way. Thanks for the response.

My non-resident permit took 42 days total...with regular prints...a buddy took his app. with him to Daytona...had the electronic prints done while down there...and cut it down to 19 days.

I was told the same thing last week when I finally called. The FBI has been working on my prints since the first week of June.

Oh great, so that means I could be waiting forever too, right? Ugh, they shouldn't tell you "complete", it gives me the implication that its "almost done", when in fact it could be another 2 months...

I just called about mine, but I missed the 5pm cut off by an hour watching star trek. :animlol:

I'll check back with them tomorrow.

I called today and was told it was still "In Process". They cashed my money order a month ago. Is this normal?

My check cleared right after they got my packet. Like I said before, this was in the first week of June.

Yes.

The reason is probably the are waiting on the feds to send the info back to them saying you are ok. That takes time. We all know how slow the federal gov is...

That is exactly what the woman on the phone told me. She said the biggest hold up in the system is the FBI and the fingerprints.

She said it is not uncommon for the feds to take 90 days just to process your prints. This is on top of the time that the State takes to process your application.

I wish I had known that the digital fingerprints were so much faster. I guess it is significantly more automated when compared to the old fashioned way.

Hey GT'ers,

From my assessment going with the electronic printing is the way to go. Like was mentioned earlier it significantly cuts down the lag time since the prints are sent straight to the FBI. It only took about a month to get my FL CCW back using the electronic print. Now I'm ready to go pick up a 23 here pretty soon. Much thanks to all of the GT contributors. I've learned quite a bit since joining (still learning)

:-)

I know, the sig line needs some work <g>

Then the send it on to the FEDS......this is the slow part. Be patient. It will arrive.....Wanna borrow mine? Mine too was a long ass wait!

Just an fyi for those of you waiting on a FL permit. I just got off the phone with someone over in Tallahassle and he said that my permit was issued today but they are still waiting on my fingerprint record from the FBI. Apparently they are required (state law) to issue you a carry permit after 90 days even if they don't get a background check done in that time frame.
