I have never seen one of these except in pictures. I was wondering as to how they shoot in comparison to other K-frames in terms of accuracy. The price of a 547 is daunting compared to .38, .357 or even .22 K-frames. From a shooter's standpoint is the 547 worth the extra money. I've got Speed Six and a Taurus 9mm DA revolvers, but enjoy K-frame S&W's a lot.

I have one and it is very accurate. I really enjoy it. It is one of my favorite guns and one which makes me most happy.
Feel free to ask any questions about them.
BTW, you can build your own 9mm J frame (940)from parts. However you can not build your own 547 as both the frame and the cylinder are highly unique.

Two...one as spare.
Fairly accurate.
Not the best in my revo collection however.
Not selling either...sorry.

Ted & G33,
What sort of moonclips do you use with your 547's, if any?
What is the barrel twist rate?
How would you rate the 547's accuracy versus a Mdl 10? Same, better or worse? I have this feeliing that off a Ransom the 547 might not be quite as good as its .38 cousins or even the .357's. Maybe I am all wrong on that one.
G33 - I'm not interested in buying either of yours. Handguns in that price range give me the willies? I like to get my screwdrivers and stones out too much to fool around with collector guns.
I just haven't seen anything written about them and was just wondering. I suspect one day I'll run across a Ruger Speed Six in .38 that mirrors my 9mm Speed Six and then I can compare those revolvers. It seems of little utility to try and compare a 2" Taurus 9mm vs a 2" Taurus 85.
Thanks,

There are loaders for M547.
This olde M10 is more accurate.

I have a three-inch, round-butt Model 547...about as accurate--in MY hands--as any three-inch, fixed-sight Revo I've ever shot. Strangely, MINE seems to like 147-grain ammo the best...FWIW....mikey357
Agree on 147s.
115s are the worst.
Hornady 147s XTPs.
Boom!

I have one of those, but some idiot took the lanyard ring out of it before I bought it. I hope to find one someday and put it back in, like it should be.

I have the S&W 547 4" which hasn't been shot very much. I bought mine several years ago and had it to the range about three times. It is fairly accurate at twenty five yards and is fun to shoot. The only wear mine has is a light cylinder turn ring. I bought it primarily because I like shooting revolvers and shooting 9MM compared to .38 specials is much cheaper alternative. A very good plus for this revolver is not needing moon clips.
Usually these revolver came from the factory with an extra heavy weight main spring, I think its a 9#, to promote consistant primer ignition. I guess Smith thought they needed this weight not just because of the hammer fall but because of the pin above the firing pin hole that also has to be compressed at the time of ignition. This and it's 18# rebound spring gives these 547s a pretty heavy trigger pull. I put a normal 8 1/2# main spring and a 14# rebound spring in mine for a much better trigger pull. It has not missed a beat with any 9MM I feed it. This spring combination also helps shooting single action since the stubby hammer isn't as hard to pull back. After a couple hundred rounds my thumb was rubbed sore before the spring change.
I have digital pictures of my 547 somewhere, but I am very computer challenged.;)

is the three inch barrel and round butt version and has the maple-looking replacement banana shaped grips like the original which I found somewhere.
It shoots well enough, but, as I recall, has a bit more subjective recoil using PMP 9MM 115 gr. FMJ rounds than do standard rounds in other comparable .38 Special models.
I recently pulled a NIB 3" 547 and 2" 940 out of the back of the safe. I've been restructuring my S&W collection, and neither fits in.
I went on S&W forums and raised the question to the guys on which would be more desirable to keep and leave NIB and got various answers...but something is telling me to just put them back and don't get rid of either. Such tough decisions:sad:
Sell both here at top $$.

Naw, this would probably be the last place I would post them FS....YOU and a couple others might appreciate and know about them...but I have found that when selling collectible Smiths...nothing matches S&W Forums.
The kind of prices the NIB older Smiths are fetching don't seem to go over well on many forums...guys think your trying to rape someone or just bombard ya with "curiosity" posts/PM's...no intention of buying...but want to know "what the Hell is that?"
Funny that guys don't bat an eye at paying 650 on up for a Sig or HK....but think your committing a crime for charging 500 for a pre-lock/pre-MIM chunk of American steel thats NIB and 20 plus years old
Owned a 3" 547 in the past. Sold it for no good reason.
I have a firm recollection of extraction being VERY difficult. It became painful to fire more than a few cylinder fulls due to the extraction effort.
As was mentioned by someone before me the double action trigger pull was also quite heavy.
Just a word of caution, these were Lear Seigler guns, and therefor many exhibited quality control issues. Examine any purchase CAREFULLY!!!
Funny how memory discounts the warts until brought to mind and than...
AHHH...HAHHH now I remember.......
