MK9 GA serial number prefix

So I found a MK9 for sale the other day. The price wasn't horrible and it looked very getly used. I was going to buy it with the intention of adding a set of the wood grips I bought from Kahr.

Turning the gun over I found that the serial number began wih GA. The Kahr wbsite says that their grips will not fit guns with the GA prefix.

Does anyone know what the difference(s) is/are between guns with the GA prefix, and later production guns that would keep the grips from fitting?

From what I have read, the frame was changed under the grip panels after the GA series guns. This changed allowed the grip panels to be made thinner, which gives the gun a thinner profile. If you put a later made MK9 along side the earlier GA gun you can see the diff. The grip panels are not interchangeable according to Kahr.

I own a GA series that I bought new. It's been good, although it gets carried a lot and shot not so much. Did replace the recoil spring/rod assembly. Regards,
