View Full Version : K40/P40 question
In the past I have shot Kahrs and enjoyed them. I did however have one problem that I cannot explain. I was at the time carrying a K9 with 115 +P Corbon JHP's and they were stout, a friend let me shoot his K40 with wood grips shooting 165gr ball and after firing three rounds it felt like I got jit in the hand with a hammer. Specifically the first joint of my knuckle closist to the web of my hand. I have thought about a Kahr 40 but am reluctant to do so after this. I also want to add I continued to shoot a K40 that was in our rental booth to try and overcome this. I have been shooting for years with the same grip and I have never had this done.

I've never shot a K9 with +P's, but I do carry & shoot my K40 Covert (all metal pre-curser to the MK series) quite a bit. Although it's got a bit of kick, I've never had call to really complain about it. Guess the gun's weight helps to counteract the recoil of the regular powered Golden Sabers I use.
On the other hand, I've shot my wife's S&W 642 with +P .38s and hope to never do so again. I think that +P's are just a bit too much for smaller/lighter guns, even the 9mm +P.
(I didn't have any problems with +P 9mm Corbons in the Ruger P95 I use to own, but that was the long-strand fiber glass, embedded into the polymer, that was absorbing the recoil).
I would guess that regular powered .40's just aren't as bad as 9mm +P's.
