I have been to a few of the gun shows in the area and there are always signs saying "No Loaded Weapons". I was just curious what those of you thought about this. I figured a gun show would be a gun friendly zone to those who legally carry. I have my CCW and carry everywhere that is legal, but it is kinda odd that you cant carry at a gun show.

If it is legal to carry in a gunshow according to state law, I always take the "no loaded firearms" sign to mean that they are reminding me not to bring in a loaded firearm for sale or trade. My CCW is not going to be touched or handled unless my life is in danger, and nobody will even know about it.

Living in Fl. I never declare it. I laugh as everyone is pulling theirs out and getting zip tied. No worries here!

I would never attend a gun show that won't allow me to CCW , thats like going to a movie theatre and them not letting you wear your glasses.

Well, when the FHP Officer asks do you have a gun on your person, you tell him no?
This is a self defence law, "Let me try my gun in that holster" Hullo.

Same as going into a Post Office, it is against the law re Post Offices, but against common sense in a gun show.

no gun show I've ever been to has a cop asking if you have a gun.

I don't think it's against common sense at all. Why would you think that?

What they're probably trying to prevent is some idiot laying a loaded weapon on a table for trade saying "it ain't loaded" and the other guy pulls the trigger and leaves a hole in the roof.

I sure hope some idiot hasn't zip tied their carry piece on that misconception...

Gmountain,

Thought that might stir things up!

Gun Show at the Fair Grounds Hwy 50, Orlando, two FHP Officers in the entrance, just after you get your ticket, always there.

I carry a G19, every day, but there is a big difference in a CCW, under a shirt, and a gun show, in my humble opinion, and it is just an opinion, my Glock stays in the holster till bed time, then it stays on my night table, day in day out, but some people I see at gun shows? I think it is a good rule, it seems it came in, the rule, after some one was shot, negligant discharge.

I thought it was the sellers at these shows who wanted a quick way for the cops and show staff to be able to identify a gun as it was leaving the show to determine if it was "misappropriated". No nylon tie and no green dot? Then stand to the side and produce the Bill of Sale.

This nonsense at gun shows was stimulated by insurence companies. All gun shows have to be insured, and no insurance company will provide a policy without that notification.
You can look back at the gun show history at all the NGs and the small number of people killed or wounded at gun shows because stupid people didn't follow the simpleist rules of gun handeling.
You remember a few years ago the rather dumb holster salesman at a easter gun show was showing a potential buyer a holster and shoved his own personal (loaded) Handgun into the holster discharging the handgun. The round fired into the head of the patrons sons killing him. We can talk about he hugh number of NGs that happen at gun shows, or the number of times people were trying to sell me their rifle and while checking the breach found it to be loaded.
Thats why they make such a big deal about it. No sign, no insurence, no show.
Also if you get caught with a CCW the Leos will confiscate it until you can prove it is yours, or no vender has reported one stolen.

Its the price you pay to put on a gun show.

There is and has always been much discussion as to whether or not it is unlawful to carry a lawfully posessed concealed handgun in a U.S. post office. The answer is "No it is not unlawful" in my experience and opinion.

How do I know that? Because jewlers do it all the time and they certainly don't get arrested. Diamonds go "Registered mail" every day all over the USA and the world.

A postal police officer or postal inspector isn't looking to "collar up" on a license holder as though he were a street kid with a hot .22 in his pocket after a candy store robbery. The poster in the post office is not "all" of the information from the relevant law and nothing on the poster makes mention of licensed carry even though the law does BUT it's a bit farther down in the statute than the poster information shows.

Because I'm carrying money and firearms, I always carry a loaded concealed sidearm to the gun show to protect myself from robbery. The staff ask me to unload my weapon in a designated bathroom just before I enter the hall and put a zip tie on the trigger, which I don't love but which is okay with me I guess. :drillsgt:

About 3 years ago when I first got my CCW...There was an upcoming gunshow in KC, MO...i had attended some of these shows and the no loaded weapons sign was at the entrance door...the show was put on by RKshow's...Here is their site http://www.rkshows.com/
I forget who I talked to, either R or K, a woman...I asked specificly if a leagal CCW holder could carry... The answer was nope...No loaded guns , PERIOD...All weapons must have the cable ties.....
Thank God for the MO laws on being outed in an establishment that is posted...They ask you to leave, and , adios...No problems..Uou say no, then you can be ticketed for trespass...

The interesting part here is that it's not just the sign that is the defining factor, it's the fact that most (if not all) gun show here in NC charge admission, that's the big rub with concealed carry since in NC it's illegal to carry concealed in an event where admission is charged. Just another reason to be writing and emailing your reps and asking for change!

I didn't even think to put that one in there with no concealed carry. That definately puts the carry at the show out of the question unfortunately. Its a shame you can't even carry at supposedly gun friendly zone.

Here's what I do

Before entering the building I go off to the side and remove the mag, clear the chamber and put the mag and round from chamber in my pocket, let them check the gun and tie it.

Go in and enjoy

Upon leaving once back outside I cut the tie, reload mag and be on my way

I went to the NRA National Convention and Exhibits in St. Louis earlier this year and although I "heard" that the STLPD would be at the doors checking for firearms - they were NOT. Plenty of police, but not checking for CCW nor did I see any signs. It was a record crowd - I wonder how many were carrying.

I find it very disheartening that most gun shows have become "defense free zones."

Hmm... I don't know about that....what gives them the right to take your weapon if no laws are being broken? that's like saying you see a young male in a $100K sports car at a red light, are you going to yank him out of the car, detain him and check to make sure the car hasn't been reported to NCIC as stolen? No. The most they will do is just ask you to leave the show....again, that is assuming you ARE NOT breaking any laws....

Most gun shows I attend are in government buildings: City Auditoriums, etc. So it's illegal to carry concealed there anyway. I just carry a semi-auto in a holster with the slide locked back showing it is empty and a loaded mag in a pocket = 2 seconds to load up if needed.

I always cut off the plastic tie as soon as I'm away from the door.

The result? 100% legal carry, but ready for action in 2 seconds if needed.

My rule: Never violate the law ****EDITED FOR POSTING VIOLATION****.

.....that I attend, mostly in NW Fla.,there is a on duty deputy sheriff. He asks you,"do you have any guns or ammo. He asks this even if you are not carring something in your hands.

There is also a sign posted that states, "no loaded firearms". I take this to mean even if you have a concealed weapons permit.

The reasoning is(IMO)that some bafoon will attempt to show his CCW to another(which is illegal in Fla) or will attempt to sell it or get a price quote on it,and there will be an unintentional(accidental) discharge.

If we could guarantee that every CCW permit holder would leave their weapon where it is supposed to be while at the show,I would say let them(including me,I am the holder of a Fla.CWP)keep their loaded weapons concealed. Until then I say,"No Loaded Firearms".

Also,it is completely LEGAL to carry a properly licenced firearm(or other weapon) into a U.S.Post Office....IF!....you do not have the intent to commit a crime.
