My 686 needs some ammo to keep it happy. It's been a while since I bought .357 magnum ammo. Any other web sites besides ammoman, cheaperthandirt, midwayusa that you guys use?
What is a the going price for good practice ammo for .357 magnum these days anyway? WWB, magtech etc...
I have always had good results with MidwayUSA, they are the only online company I deal with anymore.
You are usually not going to find better prices or more selection anywhere.
BTW the 686 is a great gun, I would pick up some 125g Gold Dots and some 158g loads for the woods.
Dicks Sporting goods and Walmart about $22 a box.

I've been shooting S&B in .357 these days. It's the cheapest.
Sportsmanguide.com has the best prices I've found.
They always have some coupon codes available (do some quick searches to find them) for $5 off $50 order or $10 off $100 order.
The best price I found for 50 rounds of S&B .357 ammo is $13.97 a box there.
Of course you should go .38 special if your going to shoot alot of practice rounds. Then your talking only $10-$11 a box.

Try www.georgia-arms.com. Good clean burning ammo, and a quality company. I have used their 9mm and .44 mag. They have "cowboy" versions of the mags which I really like, as opposed to using specials (either .357 or .44) because the longer mag case length helps avoid the crude ring you get when using specials in a mag gun. The "cowboy" .44 mag is about 750 fps, or about the same as a .44 special. It is a great plinking round. I have not tried the loaded down .357, but I expect you would have similar good results.

Thanks for the heads up. Man, ammo has been going up. Used to be $10 a box. My local gunshop has Winchester WB "on sale" for $15.99 a box of 50. Should I buy some boxes at that price? Walmart is like $22/box.
Georgia arms seems to have pretty good prices. Maybe I'll buy a couple of boxes from them.:)

The heck with it, I just went to sports authority and bought them out. I bought 10-50 rnd boxes of WWB for $15.99/box. Figured I'd get it now before they increase prices again.

You could have saved about $20-$25 if you listened to me......
But hey, more power to you. Happy shooting.

Thanks for the info john, but it ended up being cheaper if I bought locally, to save on shipping. The cheapest they had on sportsmansguide was about the same price as in my local store. I wanted .357 magnum ammo instead of .38 too. The $10 wouldn't cover all of the shipping costs. Thanks though, I really do appreciate you're advice! Besides the WWB was about $6 cheaper per box at Sports Authority than sportsmans guide.

I've had great luck with Independence .357 Mag ammo @ Sportsmans Warehouse. I'd like to say they are made by Speer but I can't remember for sure.

I got some Fiocchi not long ago from Sportsman's Guide for around $14 per box of 50 (buying 250 rounds). It's probably gone up since then, though.

I know you'll always get this answer in these type of threads, but for good reason.
Give a serious look at reloading.
Natchez Shooters Supply and Midway USA get my vote for suppliers for most everything.
AIM Surplus has some decent deals, too.

Shhhhhhh!
Component prices won't go up so quickly if people don't reload as much.
