View Full Version : HD Shotgun - Sights
Have decided on Rem 870 12Ga / 18" / 7-shot for HD. Interested in inputs on different night / optical sights. Thanks.
I have one of these on my 870 HD shotgun. Some people will say that a laser on a SG in unnecessary, but it could be very handy when not shooting from the shoulder. I like the light too.

eBay has a couple for under $200.

eBay has a couple for under $200. Lasers make the tactical shotties work more like folks already think they work; point and shoot. ;)

XS Systems Big Dot shotgun bead (tritium). Unless you plan on using slugs it's perfect for indoor ranges. Their Express sights are also good.
If you like ghost rings I've used LPA (Benelli) and MMC and like them.

I have the same shotgun, and think that the bead is fine for most applications. I have a TLR2 laser/light combo that I attached for HD purposes.
Great choice!
I have to agree with the guy above me about the TLR light. I have a clamp on the mag tube with a TLR-1 and I love this set up. It holds strong through my practice sessions and is WAY more cost effective than the Surefire forends. You can pick up the TLR-2 if you're into the lazer.
As far as sights go... I replaced the bead with a Meprolight night sight which works the same but gives you the glow in low light.

I acquired an old Wingmaster in "riot" configuration that some previous owner had added an XS tritium bead. Aside from the tritium being about gone, it is a good sight. I have no problem getting good, point-of-aim hits with slugs on torso-size targets out to 50 yards with that sight. While I'd like to have a set of Express or ghost rings installed on it, I may just replace what I've got and the money I save can go into either a light system or a short pull stock with a Limbsaver recoil pad.
My personal gun wears this barrel. remington part #242556 18" tritium rifle sights, Fixed Mod choke, Park. finish. Call remington direct and its $144 +shipping, some aftermarket sights will cost that most are around $100. and you can sell your old barrel for $75 pretty easily.
#242256 is the bead sight tritium sight factory barrel. Mod choke, parkerized. same price.

For HD sights, think simple and highly visible in poor light.
A plain tritium bead, or Wilson Combat ghost rings with tritium front.
Forget about gun-mounted lights unless you have taken some GOOD training in how to manage them. Otherwise, they can be more harm than good.
