View Full Version : Shooting with Laser
At the range Yesterday I decided to try shooting from a variety of defensive positions using the laser rather than traditional standing positions or from the bench.
I used a 1" Shoot-N-See dot pasted on a target set up 10 yards away. The results were more than satisfactory. Emptying 10 rounds out of the mag put numerous shots dead onor touching the dot or within about a 3" group. In my opinion, that's not too bad for not looking down the sights.
There were a couple of instances where my grip on the gun was less than ideal which resulted in some flyers.
Great real practice for your gun with a laser - much different than holding the gun out front in traditional stances and using the laser (and not the sights).
Sounds like fun--and a great exercise!
Our range will allow only standing or seated shooting postures, with no holster draws, etc. This, of course, is for insurance reasons.
Which laser do you use?

I use the Lasermax. I have had it for about 2 years and it works great for me. I hear of a lot of issues and problems that people have , but I don't seem to have issues. I did get a new cap in the beginning, the service was great and quick.
Never caused any malfunctions and when I swap it for the stock recoil spring there is hardly a difference (G30). Turns on easily and stays on. Batteries are original and have been used a lot.

I really enjoy practicing with laser and laser/light equipped guns.
I have a backyard range and shoot with the lasers at lease two and up to five or six evenings a week.
An hour or two ago I was shooting with a new Kimber Ultra Covert II.
I'm trying to break a second a shot but I have a self imposed rule that the whole target is thrown out if a shot is out of the 4x6 inch circle, no matter the shooting distance. It's slowing me down but accuracy is more important than speed.
Keep praticing with your laser.
It's fun.:)

This is a good exercise if you can shoot five yards from your target.
It's for a 2 inch revolver but would be good practice with any handgun.
Five shots from five yards, inside 4 inches in five seconds, starting with the gun pointed down or in a holster.
Again I can't break that second a shot barrier.

I've had my LaserMax for about a year now. It replaced my guide rod in my XD. What fun, never had any problems and still using the same batteries. Sucker is dead on and really boosts my confidence if I have to make an accurate shot in a home defense situation.
Same here--LaserMax in G19 & G21 and love them!
Rounds appear about 1/4" above the red dot, right out to practical pistol distances.
Still on original batteries and battery caps from 11/05 & 02/06 purchases!
Great company.
