I ordered a Mossberg Special purpose Tactical Cruiser shotgun today.
It is the model with the muzzle stand-off. The military uses these to
breach doors.
I was wondering what type of ammo would be used for door breaching.
Something special, or just a slug?
Not that I am actually going to be breaching doors with it, (well you never know  ). I just think they look really cool, and I think they could be a future target for banning, so I bought one now.

The military generally uses 12ga buckshot, because it's available.
Actual door breaching rounds designed for the purpose (Master Key and other loads) use compressed lead dust. It hits the door, lock, etc causes damage and then turns into dust. No ricochets or overpenetration. And no, they're not available except to police/military.

I would bet that there is no law prohibiting purchase of them, and that it is just policy of the manufacturers.
Like most LEO ONLY marked ammo I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could find someplace on line that will sell it to me as a non-leo.

Thanks for the replies.
I know there was a thread a month or two ago about door breachers, but I could not find it, and I don't remember ammo being mentioned.
I have seen a few videos on You-Tube and other places showing the actual use of a breacher. It is an interesting application.

Duke Nukem. That was one of the first computer games I played with my son. Hours and hours of fun doing that. Now he is all grown up and lives out of state. We could play games against each other over the net, but I guess I am just no challenge for him any more.
By the way, I picked up my Mossberg today. It is pretty cool.

#9 shot for shearing off locks. Or lead powder style. Not buck.
