View Full Version : Streamlight M6 and M6-X diffrences?
Can anyone tell me what the difference between the Streamlight M6 and M6-X's are?
I picked up a new in the box M6 as part of a trade and a friend of mine is telling me the M6 is junk and the M6-X is oh so much better.
They look the same to me other then ones 90 lumes and one seems to be 125 lumes.

The M-6X is supposed to be a tougher unit. It is rated as being mil-spec and fully submersible to ? feet. As you noted, the X model is brighter and is supposed to have a laser that holds it's zero better. The X model is also a little bit larger than the other, so it will not fit in the same holsters.
I have one of each and like them both.

Also, the M6 is a Streamlight; the M6X is actually an Insight product.
Correct me if I'm wrong though, Insight made Streamlights tactical laser/lights right? Hence why the almost look the same.
So the M6 should hold up ok for normal tactical shooting and home defense then.

Yes, they both were developed by Insight. Steamlight put their name on the M6 and marketed / distributed it. Insight then improved the M6 and sells it under their own name as the M6X. I would say that the M6X is like a stronger, more heavy duty version of the M6. I think that the M6 would work just fine for the purposes that you described.
Insight also worked on developing the Blackhawk Gladius light and they sell their own version as the Insight Typhoon.
