I use my 36 as my primary back up and off duty. While I practive regularly, I can not seem to consistantly shoot solid groupings. On average I would say at 7yds I shoot roughly 3-4"groupings; at 15 and 25 they expand considerably. Typically stringing out horizontally to the left.

I know this has been posted elsewhere in this forum, but its a great starting point:

I found that my trigger control was a quite off when I first started shooting again. Using this chart and my laser sights for dry fire practice really revealed to me how much of a factor this was. I find I'm slowly improving with lots and lots of dry fire practice.

One thing that may be a factor for you as it is for me is that I really notice that the 'trigger feel' of my G36 and G17 are quite different. You mention that your G36 is your backup and off duty: do you use a much different primary carry pistol? The difference in the triggers could be a big factor. I hope this is a starting point that helps!

As an aside, I notice that if I spend time with my P32 (and its astonishingly long trigger pull) that both my glocks seem like butter afterwards :)

I get about 3" groups at 10 yards, usually a round or two off to the right another inch or so about every 10 rounds...Further out, goes to about 5" groups at 15 yards. Sometimes I can do better, but this is pretty typical for me.

At 7 yards I get a nice group about the size of a 50 cent piece...

My on duty is my personally owned G17. As for trigger feel, I've put thousands of rounds downrange on the 17, the 36 is still relatively new. For a comparison between the two the 36 trigger is indeed much heavier feeling. As you've suggested continuous dry firing has been the order of the day when I'm sitting around the house. Thanks for the chart and appreciate the advice.

when i practice with my g36 or my g21 i never shoot at a target further than 5 yards. mostly 2-3 yards. whats the point of practicing at a target 10-20 yards? i think we are much better off just practicing drawing and shooting 2-3 yards. just my .02

Sometimes bad guys will shoot at guys like me from about 10-15 yards away, you know the distance of a normal car stop or when I'm walking up to a house on a domestic violence call.....
