I load hollowpoints(Hornady & Federal)in my G36 and experience feeding problems(ammo caught on the feeding ramp)when I rack the slide to charge the gun. With ballpoint type ammos, it never had any problems. My G36 is the first batch made, and I'm wondering if Glock might have changed the feeding ramp on the barrel and/or the follower(I have the "flat" ones). I have fired only ballpoint ammos out of my G36.

Do they function correctly when firing the gun?

Are you sling shotting the slide or are you riding the slide forward?

I fired only ballpoints at the range with my G36. It's not the way I rack the slide ..it's the way the flat tip hollowpoints loading onto the feeding ramp and getting caught it.

The early G36's have a hump on the feed ramp or another way to look at is they have dip in the chamber right past the hump in the feed ramp of the barrel. If it's an early G36 Glock will replace the barrel as they usually only function properly with hard ball ammo. I have found Remington Golden Sabers to be about the most reliable hollow points in mine(also in old 1911's). I like the 230 grain standard pressure ones. The only 185 grain ones I've found have been +P although Remington list a standard pressure 185 grain GS too. I could get Glock to swap the barrel but I'm keeping the original and I'm buying a new factory Glock replacement barrel.

Do you have an idea when they made the change to the barrel? My G36 was born in Oct. 2000.

I don't know the dates or even what year(s). The old ones have whats looks like a "dip" inside the chamber just forward of what looks like a "hump" just forward of the feed ramp. Some used ones have been ground down trying to fix the hollow point feeding problem. The early barrels weren't designed with feeding hollow points it seems. Somebody said he still had feeding problems after Glock replaced the barrel and he said Glock told him to put a piece of cardboard behind the magazine. But most people say the barrel change fixed the problem. I stay with the most reliable feeding ammo I've found which is Remington Golden Sabers.

I have an early 36. DXNXXX from 2000. They can be problematic in loading the 1st round from the mag.

You have to move the slide very briskly or load as Glock suggests in the the manual. Sometimes only having one or two rounds in the mag at the time helps, if the spring is new. I think it's lock the slide back, insert mag, and pull slide to rear and release. I could be wrong on this. The last time I looked at a Glock manual was over 10-15 years ago.

Slow manipulation of the slide will cause hollow points and sometimes ball ammo to hang.

I don't know from "humps", bumps, and "dips". My unaltered 36 barrel has no geographic features. Perhaps the ones that do are the result of "basement gun mechanics" modifying and polishing perfectly good barrels because they don't know how to properly load a semi automatic pistol.

Some of the less experienced believe that all semi autos should load the same. If their "X" brand pistola loads like goose crap through a tin horn, all their semis should. Not always true. I have several pistols that, if you deviate from a fast moving slide to chamber a round they act slightly differently to that action. However, once firing they all work 100 percent, including my Glock 36.

Isn't it entertaining to know that guns, inanimate objects, have personalities.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong. However, I'm pretty sure I'm not.

I don't remember the serial number on mine but it's Cxx something I think. It has the early type barrel. It forces hollow points to pop up and nose in to the top of the chamber. A FMJ can do this but very few hollow points will chamber this way. I'm not sure if it's from hitting the top of the chamber or catching the dip after the feed ramp when it tries to come down and chamber but the replacement barrels look completely different.

My old 40S&W Glock barrel have a "loose" chamber and very smooth feeding. I bought a new factory Glock 40 S&W barrel for more chamber support. Now it causes the cartridges to "jump" and doesn't feed as smoothly as the old barrel nut no problem with hollow points. 40 S&W was designed as a hollow point cartridge. It now require very brisk forward movement of the slide to feed properly though. Doesn't look as reliable but it's okay. This a bit different from the early G-36 barrels.

I just shot 100 Winchester Ranger Hollow points, +P, through my G36 for its first range session out of the box. Perfection. No malfunction. Even made head shots on a metal target from 75 feet with it consistently. Use dominant eye, squeeze, trap, reset, it works!

I don't doubt you. They didn't hit dealers until April 2000 and mine was born Oct. 2000, so I thought mine would one of the very early ones. Maybe they changed barrel designs in 6 months, because my barrel looks fine.

I had that problem with a Bersa Thunder .45, I polished the feed ramp and took a little off the slide lock and it worked after that. I don't know if you really want to do that with your GLOCK though.
