We all know Gander Mountain has been increasing their prices on guns, but it's really getting ridiculous! Some guns appear to be priced over MSRP. I even saw one used gun priced about $20.00 more than a brand new one identical to it, in the same store?

What's really a joke is when you buy a gun now, they give you this fancy green folder that says on the cover, "YOU DON'T PAY MORE, YOU JUST GET MORE." What more do you get you ask?

1. One free gun cleaning.

2. A $25.00 Trade-In Certificate, that you can redeem toward the purchase of a firearm when you bring in your Gander Gunsmith Certified firearm to trade.

3. A limited warranty that has more holes in it than my socks!

Whoopee do!

Their ammo prices are way off base. They wanted $35 for 50 rounds of .32 cal Winchester Silvertips. I buy them in a tiny mom and pop gun shop for $27.

High overhead at the big box stores equates to higher prices, IMO.

The local Bob's Gun Shop, Fish Market, and Boot Emporium remains a viable option in many cases around the country.

Shop around.

Sounds like a consignment, where the seller is demanding way more than he can reasonably expect to get from it.

Do they do consignment at Gander Mountain? I never heard of them doing that. They usually just buy the weapon outright. Even if you're trading one in on a new one, they buy yours from you first, then handled the new one like a regular sale.

I have seen the same thing here in Arkansas two identical guns $20-40 dollars different.

IMO they are a nice place to window shop and I do buy some stuff there but is is mainly stuff that FT Thompson or Dons Weponary doesn't carry.

I am pretty loyal when it comes to purchases I like to help keep the Mom n Pop shops around.

You don't have any reason to shop Gander Mountain any more. There is a new Hunt, Fish, Camp outfitter in town. Sportsman's Warehouse (
We are located in Allen Park, just off 94 at the Oakwood Blvd. Exit in Dearborn Map Quest (

The day I bought my Glock 36 for $465 at MC Sports in Traverse City the same gun at Gander about a mile or two away was $625. There was nothing different on the guns, same sights 2 mags same gun. This was about 2 and 1/2 years ago.

I was looking to purchase a Marlin 1895 in 45/70 there. They only had the display model and it was scratched up and had a corner of the reciever nicked up, on a "new" gun. Price was already 50$ more than anyone else. One sales clerk said "I could knock 20$ off the price"... I asked how about more like 50$ since it is overpriced and beat up for being a brand new gun!... I can't go that low. Right... Keep smoking the crack rocks. 13$ box of Q3131 5.56mm, 15$ box of blazer brass .40. Nutz.

I ended up going to a local gun shop that had a Marlin 336C, which I wanted a 30-30 more anyway. Got it for 400$ NIB. Screw Gander Mountain, I will never set foot in their stores again. Walmart > Gander on ammo prices and local Mom 'N Pop shops > Gander on gun prices.

I stopped by Gander Mountain once again to see if they regained their sanity. Nope! Prices are insane!

I've bought from GM before, but you definitely have to know what you're looking at. I was there browsing a couple weeks ago. Saw a basic Smith & Wesson model 60 snub nose.. $699 + tax.

Listen folks, stop the insanity. No need to shop at Gander Mountain. Come and get the best prices in town at Sportsman's Warehouse. Call me at the shop 313-382-9800 and ask for Steve. I would be happy to give you a price over the phone.

They're a joke! I have seen used guns priced @ MSRP and new guns $150.00 over MSRP. I saw a M1 Grand with the Barrel and Stock sawed off, it looked as if it had been dragged down a gravel road and yet they were asking over $2300.00 for it. Seriously!!! What are they thinking? One of the perks they offer in their "you get more" idea is some gun club membership. This consists of being on a mailing list for coupons. I expect a range membership, maybe a magazine or something if it is a gun club, not their coupons.

I dont understand how they are still in business, to be honest.

One of their store managers told me that when a new store opens, they start high to feel out the market and see what it will bear. How long? Don't know, but they sure were high up in Mackinaw City.

I seen a weapons check at one...:pissed:
