View Full Version : Just went to the range...

Not such a good day.

I put a full mag in the gun and squeezed off the first round. Perfect shot, I loved it.

Then I squeezed the trigger again and... nothing happened...
haha

The slide had locked back and wouldn't go forward.

so I released the mag and had to hold down the slide release lever to make the slide return forward.

I started over, different mag... different ammo.

SAME thing happened.

There was a guy at the range who had a few Glocks he was shooting, so I figured he might be able to give me some advice.

He took a look at it and didn't know what was wrong.

I put my gun back in the case and just shot my rifles the rest of the day, I didn't want to try and fix it out on the range. (might mess something up or even worse, get hurt)

When I got home, I was trying to figure out what the problem was.

After testing a few things, I found the slide release was pushing up against the slide on it's own(thus, not letting the slide return forward unless it was held down)

So I disassembled the gun and it looks like when I fired my first shot the slide release lever moved into a strange position... thus locking it up.

I took put it all back together, and it worked fine dry firing it.

I haven't had the chance to go shooting again to see if I fixed the problem... but tell me what you think.

Keep in mind that I bought this gun used and he told me he's put approx. 2000 rounds through it already.

Should I replace any parts?

First thought is that it was installed incorrectly by the last person, maybe the spring was in the wrong position?

Otherwise possibly user error? Any chance you were riding the slide lock up into the locked position when firing?

Go try it again and see how it works this time.

Good luck,
Steve

Sounds like the stock release was installed wrong.
Seems from your test, you may have fixed it. Let us know.

yep, it's fixed...

dumb dumb here put the top pin in AFTER I put the slide release in. Which made the spring not be in the correct spot.

Well, at least my mistake didn't hurt me or my gun.

lesson learned.

Good deal. Glad all is OK. Bet you don't do that again.;)

Live and learn is right. I found through goofs of my own that racking the slide, putting empty mags in and out, dry firing, checking safety operation, etc. after having my guns apart usually finds these little errors.
