I finally got to ride Deals Gap this weekend. Someone took my picture after I rode it, but it was dark when I got back.

Deal's Gap is a hoot to ride, but you never know when you are going to round a corner and find a squid fully in your lane. You could take a high speed head-on crash while riding sensibly in your own lane. You'd never see him coming. Lots of these riders don't have the skill for the machinery and speeds that they are riding. Add to that the joy of state troopers from two states (esp. Tennesse) and it takes the fun out of it. There are lots of roads in the area that are as much fun with less danger and police presence. Cherahola and Hwy 28 (from Deal's Gap towards Franklin, NC) come to mind.

For me the Gap is a great place to take a break, socialize and bike watch, but when it's time to ride I go the other way.

This was the first time I was in the area on my bike, (or anything else for that matter), and the leaders of the group, (about 4 of them 2 on BMW's and two on Intruder 1400's), I was with go to this area about 8 times a year and knew the the roads very well. Most of the group I was with of 16 bikes was mainly cruiser's. The BMW's and I would have fun on the curves and wait for the others at the next stop. We rode 28 to the gap and the gap on Sat.and the Cherohala on Sun. I liked 28 and the Cherohala better than I did the Gap. A friend of mine went up there several months ago and wrecked on the Gap and at the hospital they told him that people were more severely injured or killed on the cheohala than the gap because the speeds are higher on the Cherohala.

I saw dozzens of Hyperthingys at MotoGP this year at Laguna Seca. Cool, but not cool enough for me to want to sell my Multistrudel.

Speed Triples are bad ass looking bikes, except for the lights. I just can't get past the tacked on looking lights. Other than that they are beautiful.

Unfortunately when the snow sticks to the road, it becomes a little more dangerous.

But someone up here is selling a 1981 Goldwing Trike for $3400! Throw some studded tires on it and I am considering it. Several people have Harley Trikes that they ride in the winter up here. They are hardcore!
