Hi all,

For academic discussion, since there have been no firing squads here ever since ol' Macoy made an example of a drug dealer in the early 70s. Good idea though, for that European pedophile Chowchow referred to.

Why is it that in the firing squad, reportedly at least one of the rifles used is loaded with a blank cartridge?

so the shooters don't suffer from remorse of killing another person bec then they can rationalize that they fired a blank. (the rifles are prepared beforehand and the shooters don't know who gets the blank)

I recall reading an account of a guy who had been in a firing squad. He said the recoil from firing a blank is noticeably less than the recoil when firing a regular round, so actually any experienced shooter can tell- this was during a war and the soldiers all knew what firing a Garand felt like - but it is possible to convince onself to doubt, so the Army still put blanks into a few of the rifles.

Diba uso time of Macoy was pina salvage esp hardcore criminals. Letting the BGs run in an open field like running dogs and shooters empty their M 16s. It would show them like they were trying to escape. Case closed kaagad.

Blanks also have a bigger flash plus they generally don't cycle and eject unless the gun was modified, except for one unmodified M16 I saw years ago (no BFA but it fired on automatic, unreliably). Perhaps they use bolt-actions in the case of the military. They do kick and bark less; the blanks I fired from an M16 not only had to be hand-cycled but did not make my ears ring. So for psychological reasons it's questionable.

Gary Gilmore was executed in Utah with the use of .30-30 rifles, one of which was reported to be loaded with a blank, which is why I remembered it.

I think it is Thailand who has a one-gun firing squad, a machine gun!

The two guys who got deafened by the executioner's rifle sure won't get my sympathy.

The Europeans are surely anti-death penalty, but no complaints when the criminal gets gunned down by the cops at the scene. Also, they think American cops using shotguns are barbaric but think nothing about their local gendarmes using submachine guns. Odd, no?

Hope all the glitches get worked out so I can get my avatar and emoticons back.

Only record of Jose Rizal's execution , Dec 30, 1896. Notice the officers are taller guys, mga dugong Kastila. The Firing Squad guys are shorter --halatang Pinoys recruited into the Guardia CIvil. What could have gone through the minds of these Pinoys killing a fellow hero?

Didnt history books write that Rizal refused to be shot on his back. THis must be moments before he turn towards the fire.

I also read somewhere that Jose Rizal didn't die immediately, so one of the Filipinos was ordered to give him the coup de grace. Is this true?

Will ask them when we meet them at the other side hehe, but it's easy to imagine, they may think all they want but they're soldiers and are supposed to obey orders; besides there's an instant firing squad for them right behind if they hesitate...

Only one GI got shot for deserting during World War II, a Private Slovik.

Also, can't help but think of that poor British Admiral who was court-martialed, then shot on the deck of his own flagship.

That's great. Please post pictures as soon as possible.

Hehe if you can get an Enfield, Springfield 1903, and Arisaka, then your WWII battle rifle collection is complete!

I only have M 91/30, K 98 and Garand. I shied away from Enfield bec ammo is hard to find and expensive . Besides i dont like the way it looks. Its too clunky looking for me. As for the Arisaka, ammo is also an issue.
