View Full Version : Lubricating Question
A couple of weeks ago I field stripped (easier then I thought) my new 36. I followed the instruction re cleaning and oiling. Have not been to the range yet. I oiled all the places the owner booklet said to including a drop on each frame rail (let the oil run down the frame rail). My question is, does it matter that I oiled the frame rails with copper stuff still there? I thought I read someplace on this forum that you should not oil over the copper stuff because it will cause the copper stuff to run (of course I read this after cleaning/lubricating). If this is correct should I now clean the thing again which would not only remove the oil but the copper stuff also? Thanks
i use prolixlubricant.com if you use this stuff nothing else is needed. check out their site. taters
I don't think it will hurt to let it stay like it is. The copper lube is eventually worked off anyhow. If you notice excess oil (or the copper colored lube) running down the frame, just wipe it off and keep on trucking...Your G36 is pretty much gonna work no matter, at least mine does. When you clean it again, try to get the old oil and copper lube off, but don't lose any sleep over it. It really doesn't take a lot of maintenance to keep the pistol working and looking good. Do a search sometime of the crap people put their Glocks thru, and they just keep on working. Hope you like your new G36!
Thanks for the info guys.

What tsix said.
I use Shooter's Choice grease on all my carry guns. Doesn't seep like oil might.
Range and competition guns get oil. With a fresh dab just before going to the range. A little excess oil won't hurt at the range and it helps flush out the crap a you are shooting. A rag for periodic wiping might be in order. I use mostly Wilson's Ulitima Lube, but any good gun oil will work.
