It arrived today. Looks really nice. I do want to try to get an original dust cover, monopod, sling, cleaning rod, and bayonet for it. If anyone has a line on some of these original parts, let me know. As far as which arsenal it came from, I am having a hard time making out the markings. It appears to have been made at the Kokura Arsenal (1939-1945). It is a Series 20.

Bought it from a guy in Houston. It was advertised in the GT classifieds.

My dad, via the old Herter's catalog, had sporterized an old 7.7mm back in the 1950's. IN the early 70's I used the gun to hunt deer. I reloaded my own ammo using Norma brass. IMR 4064 powder and Norma bullets. That rifle accounted for more deer in my family than all it's replacements put together. Sadly, the rifle was pretty much destroyed in an accident in 1977. People don't realize that the old Jap action was just as strong or stronger that a 1917 Enfield. Reference Hatcher's notebook if you don't believe me.
cool its in good condition!!! :O)
I've been eyeing those lately. Sure would appreciate a range reprot when you get a chance. I can't remember, are you gettn around now a days? I seem to recall you had broke your leg or knee surgery or somthing. So if not I'll wait, its not like I plan on buying anything soon other than kids Christmas gifts and stuff.

I am getting around these days. Knee surgery was a good thing to have done. Now, I am having surgery on my back on Dec. 7 to relieve my siatic nerve. I did have a chance to shoot the Arisaka on Nov. 10 (Marine Corps Birthday). I shot really well. Very smooth and no more recoil than my Nagants. It shoot a little bit to the left, so I need to adjust the front sight a bit. At 100 yards, it shoots about 6" low for POA. The bolt action did not appear to be as smooth as the my Enfields, Mauser 98K, or my M1903. It is better than the Nagants. Overall, a pretty nice rifle. If you can find a decent early series Type 99, or Type 38, get it.
Cool ans thanks. BTW man I feel for you on the back problems.Hard to get comfortable, burning and all that. My wife has had 2 surgerys and I've been recommended every time a doc sees my x-rays or mri's and all that stuff. I went the pain management route. Personal choice for me. Good luck and hope everything works out. sorry for getting off topic.
But yea the arisakas I have seen at gun shows looke about par for mil-surps. But with the interest my family has for WW2 history I have come to believe that I MUST have something from every country that participated.

......... I have come to believe that I MUST have something from every country that participated.
I have the same train of thought. I have stuff from the U.S., Russia, Germany, Britian, and now Japan. I still want to pick up a Type 38 Arisaka, a Type 14 Nambu pistol, an Enfield revolver, a STEN MkII submachinegun (I know where there are two original ones), and a Thompson M1 (Semi-auto). It just takes time and money, of which neither are plentiful.

The Type 38s were well liked in Russia (secondary issue during WW1 when they took anything they could get) and also by Lawrence of Arabia's Arabian troops. Arisakas are well if not indeed overbuilt. Not a super-smooth action but they do the job.
