View Full Version : Which is better TJ Rubicon or JK Rubicon?
If you could have either a mint Jeep TJ Rubicon or a JK Rubicon (2 door) which would you take and why? I like the TJ for it's smaller size and more torque at the low end. What about the JK Rubicon 4 door, where does it place in the "equation"?
TJ
Straight six, smaller, and looks hetero.
Thats a tough one...as the JK's are starting to show what they can do...
ok....got the pics loaded on Photobucket

Personally, I just don't like the looks of the 4-door. The engine needs a couple years to "prove" itself, but it could be just fine. While the 4.0 in the TJ (or YJ :) ) is a proven workhorse with a affordably modifiable suspension.

Not a lot of aftermarket work gets done in that application though.

The JK is like driving a Caddy compared to any of the older models. Mine is an '07 Sahara and is the most fun to drive of all of the cars/trucks that I've ever owned. I'm not a big fan of the 4-doors, they look a lot better once they've been lifted and leveled out.

TJ style but I'd suggest an LJ to be honest. I have an 05 Rubi TJ and the only Jeep I'd rather have would be the longer wheelbase LJ (Rubicon of course). Might just be my preference though, of course the first vehicle I ever purchased was an 82 CJ-8 Scrambler so I may be partial to their successor, if you will.
Actually I have two kids and a wife and I'll tell you that two carseats will fit in my TJ but not too much else, hence MY suggestion. Again that is my situation though. Don't take this the wrong way, I absolutely love my TJ and wouldn't trade it.

Neither, a ZJ is the bet Jeep out there!!!!!! :wavey: Just kidding but my ZJ will go anywhere any stock TJ or JK Rubi will go, and then a lot of places they won't!
But I love all Jeeps, so lets see more pics on here!
Here are a couple of mine. Go to this website for tons more pics from stock to present!

I had the choice...and chose an end-of-the-year, end-of-that-line TJ Rubicon in 2006 rather than wait a couple months for the new model. Course, I also have the final year of the Cherokee line, a 2001 2 WD. Preferred the "devil I knew," i.e. the torquey 4.0 versus the higher revving 3.7 mini-van motor. Kinda liked the TJ styling better. But for the JK, the sectional hard top is a great feature...as anyone who has tried to muscle off the one piece will have to admit. Like the one inch bigger wheels/tires on the JK, as well.
Only having bought two new vehicles in my life (this was one), I also couldn't afford to risk any development pains that might arise from the new series.
Sold my YJ for the Jeep I wanted for a long time, the TJ Rubicon, and have been happy with the decision.
All that said, both great Jeeps: ya pays your money and makes your choice.

I love your Jeep. I test drove a 07 JK and you are right it does ride very smooth compared to the TJ. I still would take a TJ over a JK. No slight on the JK I am just partial to TJ's.

Now, as to the question of the OP...JK, no question!
The mid-arm set-up makes for a sweet ride and better flex off-road as well.

JK's are just that a damn joke. It's a damn shame they stopped making Jeeps and opted for the Chrysler SUV route.
I used to have a sticker that said "My jeep is not an SUV You're SUV is not a JEEP"
They work out as well as that PT Toaster.

Probably won't find much love for a Square Eye but oh well. There all Jeeps. Wheel em hard!
