I have heard about modifications you can do to the G30 and was wondering what folks have done to thiers. What works and what doesn't?
Specifically, I was wondering about a metal guiderod and recoil spring setup to replace the stock one. Anyone done this? Worth the effort?
Post your mods here!

23 views and not a single person has done any modifications to their Glocks?
No new-york triggers? No titanium firing pins or grip reductions or grip fillers? NOTHING?
Sheesh... the 1911 folks are making you look bad :D

I'll bite. Mepro night-sights, an inner tube on the gip, and Pearce Grip floor plates on all my 10-round magazines.
AT one point I had a 3.5# connector + NY1 trigger spring on it. But I went right back to the factory setup.

What is the "inner tube on the grip" you mentioned?

Probably the reason you're not getting many responses is due to the fact that there have been eleventy-zillion "what kind of modifications have you guys done" threads. It's just boring conversation after eleventy-zillion times.
Please try the "search" feature and you'll be exposed to the aforementioned eleventy-zillion threads.
For me - these four plus I do intend to get a kkm barrel;
Mepro night sights
plug for the grip
mag ext. pearce
Wolff Gunsprings guide rod and springs 21 Lbs
To answer your gun springs and recoil system I use Wolff Gunsprings guide rod, tube, and springs and their mag springs in the non captured config. I replace my Guide rod and springs and mag springs every 5000 rounds, and yes they do work very well in my G30. Wolff has great service, fast service, quality products, and good prices.
You may already know these but;
you can shoot .40 super with a barrel and spring change
you can shoot .400 corbon with a barrel and spring change
you can shoot .45 super with a spring change
you can shoot .45 tactical with a spring change
you can shoot .45 smc with a spring change
you can shoot .45 acp
you can use G21 single stack mags in your G30 with the use of an AG grip ext. (I like mine)
After market barrels Lone Wolf, kkm, Barsto, Federal, Accumatch, etc..
After market mag ext. and slide rel. from Top Glock, Glockmeister, etc...
After market springs and Guide rods from Wolff Gunsprings, Top Glock, Glockmeister, etc...
Grip ext. from Top Glock, Glockmeister, etc..
There is a whole lot more ie...triggers...etc.... ;f

I did a search through the BigDawg forum before I posted. I asked the question the way I did because I wanted G30 specific mods.
Thanks for the response.

Why the 21lb springs? Have you had problems with the stock springs?

Tube?
I have owned and fired my G30 for about a year and a half, but haven't done a thing to it other than basic maintenance.
I am a .45 guy from way back but the majority of my collection are 1911's and I never really thought much about modifying the Glock. Recently I got the itch to do something...anything... :D What good is a pistol you can't modify? :p
Yes, the stock springs got weak, both in the mags and the recoil system. But agian I replace my mag springs and recoil guide rod and springs every 5000 rounds for prevent maintenance. The reasons I do so is that the springs are cheap and are good insurance to have fresh springs in the pistol. I keep all of my mags loaded 100% of the time (except while cleaning, dry firing, and reloading.)The other reason is that my springs have failed and caused problems around 5000 to 6500 rounds in both by G30 and G27. So I have a rule of thumb to not go over 5000 rounds before they are replaced. I currently have 6,800 rounds through the G30 and 11,200 rounds through the G27 and 3,800 rounds through the G19. I don't want to wait for a weak spring to give me a problem, I do shoot a lot of ammo in a years time, depending on the firearm it may be more than 5000 rounds per year for that firearm.
The non captured and captured recoil system consist of a rod and a spring for the rod, a guide tube (tube) and spring for the guide tube. The rod with spring goes through the guide tube with spring. The non captured system is great because you can replace the springs with the weight you want and the captured system you can not replace the springs - you have to replace the whole system and keep that one spring weight unless you purchase several diff. captured guide rods all with diff. spring weights.
I, like you are a 1911 fan of several years and the .45 is just a great round. ;f
I had to tinker with the after market stuff a little, and I did it with my 1911's also. (I try to make them better or better for me to shoot good with.) ;f

AO Big Dot Tritium Express sights.
Ammo.
3 more magazines. That's it.
Try a G21 trigger bar and Heinie night sights. That's all you really need.

Thanks Daveko, I'll have to look into those... the local shop I go pimps the Glock pretty hard and they have a lot of aftermarket stuff. I wanted to get a clear idea of what questions to ask before I went in there... I already know more about 1911's than they do (not one of them carries one!) and would hate to be too far behind the cue when I start shopping for Glock parts (Got a rep to protect..LOL)
MrMurphy: Do you have pics of your G30 with the AO sights? I like the idea and on a short pistol like the G30, those huge dots seem like a good idea. (The G30 is never going to be a good IPSC gun :D )
DannyR: The G21 trigger bar is a direct swap with the G30? I already have the night sights.
The G21 trigger bar with smooth trigger is a direct swap.

I bought my G30 with Glocks own tritium night sights. Since then I also installed a Laser-Max making the Glock not only a great all around pistol but also a terrific low light weapon.

GLOCK 30 with: Trijicon night sights, extended mag release, GLOCK extended slide release, smooth trigger, Pearce mag plates, Lighting Strike titanium strike, titanium rod in the guide rod assembly and Robar MP3 finish. This glock is over 5 years old and bought brand new (it is the early model so the ejector had to be change to one that would not bounce the brass off my forehead on every pull of the trigger. Any questions?

It's just a bicycle inner tube I cut up to fit over the G30's grip to provide some traction and so that the stippling at the backstrap doesn't bite as much. I also added in some skateboard tape to help in tactile reference and help maintain a grip on the gun.

What is the advantage of having a G21 trigger bar in the G30?
Dogsol-
I have added the 21 trigger and the 3.5# disconnector (or connector, I can't remember which) to my 30. The 21 trigger is a drop in and it is cheap (Golckmeister). I like it because it is smooth and is more comfortable to shoot. For some reason the standard grooved trigger bites my finger and hurts to shoot more than 100 or so rounds. In any case, I am a better shooter with the 21 trigger and feel it was worth it. It also taught me how simple the Golck is to take apart.
I use the 3.5# conector, but do not see much difference from the stock item, especially in combat.

I removed the phosphate from mine, added Arotek night sights (green front, yellow rear), pearce mag extensions, Agrip. The only other things I want to do are change the sights to Ashley Express 24/7's and swap out the stock trigger for a G21 smooth trigger.
MrMurphy, BUY AN AGRIP! They are awesome!

Preacher: I'm surprised/disappointed that your search didn't turn up any worthwhile information.
I carry a G30 daily. Scherer 3.5# connector; everything that moves polished; Trijicon sights; Wolff guide rod/springs; Modified Hogue Handall covered by AGrip; G21 trigger. I've tried both Scherer and Pierce mag extensions and prefer the Pierce. Other than these few mods, my G30 is bone stock. (I do have a Federal extended, ported .400 Cor-Bon barrel that I use occasionally.)
Texas, looks like you've had plenty of responses but here goes:
Trij nite sites
Pearce finger extension
Grip plug
entended slide lock
NY #1 and polished 3.5 # connector
front of trigger guard; tip removed
Hey Carlos; see where you're back to the stock setup, how come?
