View Full Version : Aftermarket Recoil Rod Questions
I see claims by parts dealers that metal aftermarket recoil rod assemblies improve Glock accuracy due to the lack of flexing. Has anyone actually found this to be the case with your Glock?

No,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
No effect whatsoever on accuracy. How could it? The guide rod's purpose is to contain the recoil spring. Sights, barrel and barrel fit effect accuracy.

I make recoil guide rods. Many shooters including myself tinker with recoil springs and guide rods to tune the gun to certain loads, and sometimes to add weight up front. They will not increase accuracy.
Do they help reduce recoil or preserve the frame as is claimed by these manufacturers?

That is a function of the load in the ammunition you use and the weight of the recoil spring. Glock OEM springs are fine for most purposes. Many competition shooters use weaker than standard springs and have no problems. Some shooters prefer a heavier spring with hotter loads to reduce perceived recoil or flip. The effectiveness of these changes varies depends on who you talk with.
Thanks - I picked up a FireDragon at a Gunshow but the thing is so tight it's rough on a manual cycle. I haven't tried it at the range yet. I'm not shooting anything special - just some Fed 125gr JHPs. Got any idea if it'll loosen up after firing?

A recoil reduction system is designed to increase the force required to compress the spring .Springs weaken after thousands of compressions.Manual cycling will require more effort than normal. You may find that reducing the quantity of rounds in your mag by 1 manual cycling will be easier.
