I just want to make sure, but is it legal to conceal carry in the National Forrest while hunting?

I found this on the VA DGIF website:

Except as provided by special concealed handgun permit, it shall be unlawful to possess or transport a loaded gun in or on any vehicle at any time on National Forest lands or Department-owned lands. "Loaded gun" is defined as a firearm in which ammunition is chambered or loaded in the magazine or clip, when such magazine or clip is found engaged or partially engaged in a firearm. The definition of a loaded muzzleloading gun will include a gun which is capped or has a charged pan.

To me this sounds like you can only have it in your vehicle and that being the only firearm that is allowed to be loaded while in your vehicle.

The first line says it all. Except as provided by special concealed handgun permit,

Your concealed handgun permit is an exception to the regulations.

Is that exception only while in a vehicle though? It only states that you are exempt having a loaded weapon in a vehicle. It doesn't mention anything else.

I believe it is saying that you can have a loaded gun in your vehicle if you have a CHP, but it doesn't say you can't have a loaded gun outside the vehicle, even without a CHP.

No problems as long as you have a CHP. You can now even carry concealed when hunting with archery or muzzleloader equipment.
