Anyone registered new guns at Genesee County sheriff's office?

If so, where the heck is this office? In the jail downtown? What is the process like? Do they do it on the spot, relatively quickly?

The only guns I've registered have been in Fenton and they do it on the spot in about 5 minutes usually. I just moved out of the city limits so instead of going 2 miles down the road to Fenton PD, I have to go 18 miles to the Genesee County sheriff. Its ridiculous but I guess they have to draw the line somewhere.

I bought my G19 months ago and I've yet to register it. I also just picked up my P3AT and have yet to register that as well. I cannot carry either until they're registered so I REALLY need to get down there. I guess I've been putting it off since the process is more difficult now w/having to go downtown.

Can't help you there as I'm in the Keweenaw.

I understand your frustration. I lived in Keweenaw county, a mild over the line as a matter of fact. Had to drive 20 miles to get the gun at the dealer's then drive 35 miles to the sheriff's office in Eagle River and back home.

Now I live in the village of Laurium and the cop shop is a block down the street but they don't have an officer on duty all the time, the state police post is the next block down from them but they are too lazy so I have to go into the Houghton County sheriff's office now. I just go from Hancock (dealer) to Houghton (SO) for a 3 minute drive across a bridge and register them there. Easier to get it done there and save running around.

The Records Division is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 am till 4:30 p.m.

They maintain records for the Jail, Crime Reports, and traffic accidents. They also issue handgun purchase- permits, and pistol registration. Permits to carry a concealed weapon can also be obtained here.

The Records Division is located on the first floor lobby of the Genesee County Jail
