View Full Version : I need help!! Gun Shows...
What are the laws and rules governing the carrying of weapons inside the show buildings?
When I've attended the Dallas show at Market Hall, there've been signs saying no loaded firearms inside.
I know a venue can post 30.06 signs and then that's it.
Here in Virginia we have the show promoter setting the rule for vendors and attendees alike - "Absolutely No Loaded Firearms".
Do show promoters in Texas have the same rule?
And yes, this is to help me arbitrate some differing opinions in Carry Issues. There is no consensus on what governs carrying at a show.
I really appreciate your input.

Guns shows held on private property are subject to all applicable private property laws. The 30.06 signs apply to those carrying under the provisions of the Concealed Handgun Act.

At a typical show in the DFW area, there are 1000+ guns being handled and pointed about in just about every direction. Not all of these 'handlings' are supervised by the gun show vendors. I would not feel comfortable attending a gunshow where it was permissable for just anyone wanting to buy/sell/trade could just waltz in to the gunshow with a loaded gun. It gives me at least some degree of comfort ti know that all firearms are unloaded and rendered 'safe' for bringing into the show.

Russ,
I went to Market Hall yesterday. They make you unload/check your firearms at the door. They put a zip tie through the slide. If you get any work done, they replace the zip tie. They also tell you to keep the mags out of the gun. There is no metal detector or anything, just the honor system that you've complied. They have a 30.06 sign at the door. Hope this helps.

Russ, I sent you a PM that may help clear the fog a bit...
Last weekend I went to the bigtown show in Mesquite. When I got to the door the only sign I saw posted there was "Concealed Firearms on Premises". I didn't notice a 30.06 sign but I know I have seen one before. So that sign may have been messed up or something.Looked odd but then again....
The sign at the Market Hall gun show is NOT posted by Market Hall.
I have attended Jewelry Shows (my wife makes jewelry as a hobby) at Market Hall and the facility is NOT posted for those shows.
So it is actually the gun show promoter/organizer who is posting Market Hall.

Saxet Shows post a 30.06 now. They didn't in the past but then some doofus had an ND in Austin. Then they started to post.

Why don't you post it here to clear it up for all of us, I am still under the impression that ALL the handguns at gun shows are illegal unless carried concealed.
