A fast 185grn HP around 1050fps to 1100fps?

Or the more standard 230grn HP at around 850fps?

Which is better, Fords or Chevys?????

You will get about as much disagreement on this one as you would on the old standards of: 9mm vs 45 ACP, or the ever popular: 357 SIG vs 40 S&W.

I favor the 230g bullets to insure adequate penetration under the widest variety of circumstances. I am sure there are lots of others who will gladly disagree. YMMV!

I'm a "bigger bullet" believer especially in .45 acp. However, for the G30 I choose a 200 grainer @ about 1,000 fps because of its shorter barrel. I think they are well suited.
I won't go less than 200--if I did, might as well go .40

To aswer your question directly, of the two loads you proposed, I choose the 230 HP --but make it a +P ;)

The one that hits exactly where you were aiming.

I use 230-grain Federal Hyra-shok JHP. Never shot anybody with it, so I don't know how well it works, but I bet it's pretty bad.

Try Triton 230 grain 450 smc, Texas ammo 200 grainer .45 super both use the same barrel but heavier spring. ;f If you really want a stout .45 then check out the .45 super express - must use a pistol built to handle that one though. ;f It's going to be hard to beat Triton's 230 grainer 450 smc with 1150 fps out of a 5" barrel used with a stock pistol with a heavier spring installed.

It depends what you got. When I had my G30, I used 230gr GS. I just assumed that it would work in the G36. However, someone told me that the 185gr had better expansion in short barreled pistols. Now, I'm confused!! Can anyone here confirm or deny this???? I have boxes of both along with 230gr Triton Hi-Vel and 165gr Cor-Bon!! Help me Obwan!!!! ;D

This is the "Light and Fast" versus "Slow and Heavy" argument all over again. Which one can you hit well with?

I prefer the 230-grain Hydra-shoks myself.

That's why I go 200gr in my 30!
To me,it's the appropriate size--less barrel, less bullet weight--but not too much.

I just finished some Chronograph work with both the 185 and 230 loads I use and I had a 25 to 30fps velocity loss from my G21 to my G30 accross the board. Accuracy is equal for both loads but the 185 seems to have more felt recoil. My G21 is slighly more accurate than my G30 but the G30 is no push over. I guess youre right its Fords or Chevys. I think I will load up 500 of each to keep in my stash for rainy days.
