Admittedly, I'm fairly new to AR's, but not to handguns.
Removing rounds from a loaded Glock mag is simple and easy.
I found that removing rounds from an AR-15 mag is not so easy.
Is there an easy way?
What am I missing?

Squeeze trigger, repeat.
Chuckles and grins aside the first poster is closer to the truth than he may realize.
The M16 magazine was not designed to be manually unloaded but there are some gizmos available from Bushmaster and Brownells that make it possible and somewhat easy.
You should remember to never try pulling the cartridges up and out, this will bend the feed lips.
The cartridges should be pushed forward until they pop free from the magazine and these gizmos assist in doing that.
Look them up @

easy
Strip one round off the top. Now take that round and push down on the 2nd round in the magazine ( the lower of the 2 you can see ). This will take pressure off the top round and it will fall out. repeat until empty

You cannot take them out the same way you put them in. The have to come out like they would if you were running them through the weapon.
I use a finger (or you can take a pen or something) and push down on the second to the top round to relieve pressure on the top round, and slide it out. It's fairly easy. Of course, for unloading a whole mag, it is tedious, I would recommend the LULA.

Use a LULA.
Since I don't have one, when I block rounds (account for ammo) I unload mags using the pliers on a Gerber and strip the rounds downward (mag held bullets facing down) using the pliers to push the bases down and out.

You guys helped me break the code on the mag unloading thing.
The youtube video was helpful.
I'll probably order one of the LULA devices.
My thanks to you all.

+1 This is very easy and inexpensive. I would add to that, use the tip of the round to push, and push down on the fat part of the brass just below the shoulder of cartridge using the mag lip as a guide.

I personally find it much easier to unload an AR doublestack, doublefeed magazine than a pistol doublestack, singlefeed magazine. Maybe I'm just strange that way.

For the price and usefulness, every AR15 owner should have one.

For the price and usefulness, every AR15 owner should have two. Fixed it for you...
Umm, I am curious as to why are you unloading your mags in the first place?
Of course, I understand if the mag is dropped in mud, sand, etc., you'll want to unload to clean the mag, but other than that, why would you unload them?
For the price and usefulness, every AR15 owner should have one.
Why? I've only unloaded mags one way. :50cal:
I use the bottom of a round held perpendicular to the rounds in the mag and push against the rear of the rounds in the mag. The rounds move forward and out. Fast for me.

The OP may have his own reasons to unload mags, but it does become necessary from time to time. Use LULA.
BTW, a LULA can load mags as well. A handy thingy.

The Lula is the answer especially if you have several mags to either load or unload.

The Lula is the fastest and easiest way to do this.

+1 on the Mag LULA. I spotted one in a shop last Friday, had it demonstrated to me, and it left the shop with me. Amazing piece of equipment.
