View Full Version : I knew I needed a bigger safe!
I bought the sentry .4 cu. feet safe. I have my ammo and 22 in there. Well the one of the 22's little "brothers" is gonna be here soon and I'm running out of room. Do you guys store you ammo outside your safe or in it? I am seriously looking at the 1.00 cu. ft. capacity cause I only plan on owning 3 in the 40 cal. I don't have the room for one those locker safes. There goes more money i don't have!

I store my ammo outside the sentry in a GI ammo can. Glocks and steyr goes into the snetry when I'm out of town for any extended period. Do you mind specify the model # you have? And do you have you're bolted to the floor/wall or what ?
(btw) I have the 1170 and the smaller unit forgot model# but I think it's a 1130 or something with the handle. I can lock this around my bed post so nobody can walk off with the box.
I'm thinking about getting a gunvault. The sentry is fine but gets very crowded and unless it is cable or bolted to something it can easily be carried away.

I may go with the larger one...And you gave me an idea. I think I'll tie it to my bed post also. My safe now is in my closet. I'm looking to put it in a GI can also. I just need to get my hands on one...Hmmm if I order ammo from Georgia arms (canned heat) They will give me a GI can.

You must be reading my mind that was one model that I was looking at also. the sentry product line has been very great, but you can try here for a bigger listing

My LEo friend can get a big discount and I asked him to buy one for me. I've been looking at the minivault for upcoming birthday.
(btw) my smallet sentry is a 1100 and it holds a G21 and 4 mags quite comfortably. I can add a second if it's a G23 frame or smaller.
The bigger 117X series are no good if you can't bolt them or cable lock them down to something.
I'm having this nightmare of somebody breaking in and just walking away w/ my sentry-safe.
The only things in my gun cabinet other than guns are my high-cap magazines and optics. Ammo is stored elsewhere in ammo cans and various cabinets and lockers.
That said, I've just filled up all the long gun slots in my safe. Guess I better start buying more pistols...
ordered canned heat from GA and am going to cram as much ammo into it as I can and store it some place besides my safe. That way I have more room for my toy and won't have to blow another big chuck of money.

Although my safe is bolted to the floor, any room not taken by guns is filled with ammo. One, it creates weight and two, it makes for the big surprise should someone attempt to open with a torch.

My safe is bolted in the closet and contains weapons and spare Mags.
Ammo is stored in the closet in a supersized, padlocked craftsman toolbox more to keep the kids out of my ammo than anything else
toolbox sound like a good idea too! I just got my canned heat and my safe is almost empty...3 boxes left. I guess i just need to hit the range.
