View Full Version : Quad Rail for AK
I'm looking to put a quad rail on my soon to be acquired AK, probably a CAI AMD-65. Yes, I know it doesn't have a chrome bore.
Has anybody used the UTG478? Comments/suggestions welcome. I need a lower rail to mount a VFG and an upper rail to mount a dot type optic. Side rails are fluff for this application.

That rail is a bit of a cheapy, Made in China I think. It's the same company that makes Leapers.
Here is a rail that is fairly nice that's not one of the super expensive ones. Made by Gun Tech

It is expensive, but if you really wanted to be stylin you should get ultimak!
Heck it is only $300! Less than the price of most optical sights and very close to the price of good tac lights

Or you could just use the standard AMD lower with the pistol grip and get the ultimak gas tube

From what I have heard UTG is pretty good. I don't care for the look personally. I don't like how high it puts the optical sight.

But like the cheap AK rifles, the UTG works well. :)

The UTG is fine, but I had to modify mine quite a bit to get it to fit my Bulgarian AK.

Both my AK's have Ultimak rail systems. No problems to report. It's expensive, but awesome.

I bought a UTG for my WASR and I love it! I have never had a rail on any rifle before but the fit was good and I dont see any problems with it. It feels so much better in my hand as well.

Is spending $350 on a VFG really worth it? That is really what you are doing based on your statement.
The mag works just as well as a VFG and you can get an Ultimak top mount for <$100 from Blackjack Buffers.
The UTG is too high to cowitness, but the Ultimak will let you wowitness with the right optic.
If you want to mount a light, then get a $10 rail kit from Tapco and drill some holes into your HG or use Woodscrews and a piece of rail from Brownells.

I feel Vasili's pain.
Every time I see a ninjafied AK a small part of my heart dies.
