Hi All -
I've been wanting an auto loading rifle for a while now and after a brief affair with a Mini-30, it looks like an AR 10 is my best option for an accurate semi-auto rifle. The Mini-30 will hit paper plates at 50yds all day long but I was hoping for more. I want a target rifle for varmint hunting but not a .223. DPMS makes a model in .260 Remington and also .243 Winchester. At first I thought the .243 would be great but I understand barrel life is only about 1500 rnds and I intend to shoot it a lot and don't want to replace the bbl that often. The .260 appears to have great ballistics and longer barrel life. I reload so ammo availability isn't a significant factor. The best price I've found locally and on the internet is about $1000. Is that about right? Could I build my own and do better in either price or quality? I've done some searching here and other forumns but haven't found another manufacturer of a .260 upper. I'm new to the AR game so any and all advice is appreciated.
