View Full Version : Anyone familiar with Houlton, ME? smicha6551 11-29-2007, 06:22 I'm thinking about buying a rental property up there and was interested to know if anyone can give me their impression regarding the area. eyesnorth 12-15-2007, 15:05 Lived a bit north of there years ago in Madawaska. Nice area for all sorts of outdoors stuff. Nice people. Get to know them. If you do buy a place, buy stuff locally instead of bringing it up. Goes along way towards how you will be received. flynjump 12-16-2007, 18:00
I'm thinking about buying a rental property up there and was interested to know if anyone can give me their impression regarding the area.[/QUOTE Beautiful country if you want privacy and like to hunt off your front porch! Friends of mine just bought a place in Caribou, not too far from Houlton. 100 acres of land 5 bedroom house, barn, garage and lots of farm equipment for $139,000 sold their 1/2 acre lot and home in CT. for $350,000. smicha6551 12-18-2007, 04:48 Well, the place I'm looking at is downtown Houlton. Does anyone know what a 3-4 bedroom apartment might rent for? Skintop911 12-18-2007, 12:26 I'm thinking about buying a rental property up there and was interested to know if anyone can give me their impression regarding the area. Spent a week there one day. smicha6551 12-21-2007, 10:55 Sorry, don't get it. cyrsequipment 12-30-2007, 09:39 Well, the place I'm looking at is downtown Houlton. Does anyone know what a 3-4 bedroom apartment might rent for? I'm originally from Caribou, Finding an apartment with 3-4 bedrooms is going to be difficult. Finding a house to rent would be easier. My GF and I rented a 2 bedroom house in Washburn (an hour north of houlton) for $400 a month. If you are looking at living up there permanently, you might as well just buy a house. As stated before, the cost of living up there is VERY cheap. The first chance I get to move back... I'm taking it. eyesnorth 01-05-2008, 14:43 I'm originally from Caribou, Finding an apartment with 3-4 bedrooms is going to be difficult. Finding a house to rent would be easier. Any relation to the Cyr barber in Caribou? I know they are dumb questions to most...just curious. Spent some time in New Sweden and Madawaska. My father is originally from Limestone and just bought a place in Ft. Kent. I've got a lot of roots up in the county. eyesnorth 01-05-2008, 14:47
I'm thinking about buying a rental property up there and was interested to know if anyone can give me their impression regarding the area.[/QUOTE Beautiful country if you want privacy and like to hunt off your front porch! CT is funny as far as land prices. I bought in Lisbon withiin the past year. Small house and 18 acres for 265K. I would rather be in Aroostook county but my wife would definitely divorce me. cyrsequipment 01-05-2008, 17:38 Two questions... Do you know a former LEO named Hap? Yep I know Hap, his last name begins with a C and he used to do transports for the SO. His daughter dated a good friend of mine her first year in college. Really good guy. As for relations to Alphie Cyr, no I don't think so. Not anywhere close anyway. Aroostook is a BEAUTIFUL place and I would move back there in a SECOND, take the chance you won't regret it. eyesnorth 01-06-2008, 15:27 Yep I know Hap, his last name begins with a C and he used to do transports for the SO. Not to many Haps in the world. cyrsequipment 01-06-2008, 17:38 Good family, cousins actually. Figured you'd know who I was talking about. Not to many Haps in the world. Yea, not too many. If you talk to him he'll know who my family is. Tell him my last name and that I went to the same college as his daughter, just not at the same time. He'll be able to figure it out pretty quickly. My father still works up there in "the business". barnettbill 01-20-2008, 19:54 Years back I was stationed at Loring. I am originally from Sanford 350 miles south. Nice area, but you get 9 months of snow and 3 months of real poor sleding. cyrsequipment 01-22-2008, 14:10 Years back I was stationed at Loring. I am originally from Sanford 350 miles south. Nice area, but you get 9 months of snow and 3 months of real poor sleding. My first LE job was as a cop on Loring (closed by then). That was one of the best jobs, we got to explore all the buildings on the base, and found a LOT of interesting stuff... then they gave us a map to all the places that were contaminated with hazardous and nuclear waste... vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
