View Full Version : New Rubber

Well last week I moved into my new house. A couple of days later I got a chance to bring my bike home. I was excited to have her home, and proudly pulled her into her new garage. All is right with the world.

After stepping off my beauty, I thought I heard my water heater making a strange sound.

So I pulled off my helmet and the sound grew louder, and my heart sank. I knew it was not the water heater making that sound.

It was this.

Well I knew I needed a new front tire, but the rear only had about 3k on it, and still had plenty of tread.:(

The front had plenty of cupping as you can see here.

Well how to get my front tire in the air?

I left my lift at the other house and I would not be back there for a few days, but I did have my trusty pitbull and a couple of straps.

So over the rafters with the straps and the wheels were off in no time.

Then it was off to Cycle Gear for some new pilot road two's

Here they are in all their glory.

I got them mounted to the bike right before dark, and went out for a short ride.

I don't have them scrubbed in all the way, but so far they are great.

I forgot how nice it is to ride on round tires again.

Now if I can quit riding and find time to put the insulation and drywall in the shop, I will be all set.

The weather up here could motivate you to stop riding in a heartbeat!

Well after getting the new rubber scrubbed in, I headed over to the gap. Great day for new rubber testing.

You can see just how busy it was

I had Cletus the pirate on the back just to keep me safe.

Well the tires are great, a huge improvement over the original pilot roads.

Now just to see how they hold up.

Oh yeah, my wife bought me a tag delete kit at cyclegear yesterday, so I need to show that off a bit.

Nice bike! I want to ride the Gap in a very bad way! Hopefully one day I can take a long road trip down there.

There's a LOT fewer people up there than there was back during the summer! As in...NO BODY! :wow::supergrin:

After my ride

Here is what Deals Gap looks like on a normal day

Nice zzr.

To really show what the gap looks like on a nice summer day, you need to get a pic of about twenty cop cars.

Thanks, we got there late in the day and did not see cops.

Looks like fun, I haven't had my bike out for 3-4 weeks. It's been raining way to much here in the Pacific Northwest.

I do need to get me some new tires this summer, as mine are so flat in places corners start to be no fun.

I ended up putting 2,700 miles on my bike commuting back and forth to work this summer, what a fun time. Hopefully next summer will be sunnier and warmer.

I took the wheels off the bike over the weekend and they are at the shop today getting new sneakers (avon roadrunners 230/60-15 rear 130/90-16 front).

I did new brake pads f&r, changed all fluids, and bought a new chain. It's the only good part about winter up here, it gives the chance to do stuff.

Daytona is less than 2 months away, looking to be all ready a month early

I'm actually 1/2 guilty. We load a trailer and meet up with a buddy in South Carolina and ride to daytona from there.

And it REALLY is only because we could be getting 3 feet of snow when we leave. The ride to Sturgis is all on bike (one guy has his pick-up as a chase vehicle).

It's actually a pet peeve of mine too. Laconia is only about 100 miles from my home, I think it's a shame to see full dress bikes with NH plates on trailers. What, the hour ride on your living room sofa is too long?

hey XRING,

Post back up in a few thousand miles with a report on those PR 2's, they are probably going to be my next set of tires.

Thx !!!!

Well, I've got about 1200 miles on em, and they still look great. I can't find my tread depth gauge since the move, so I cant can't tell how much has worn. They are keeping a great profile, and so far I love em.

Not as much grip as say the pilot powers, but I can't see any appreciable wear at 1200 miles. They give enough grip to prove very entertaining in the twisties, and they are very linear when they start to lose traction They are fantastic in the rain, which I was kinda worried about with the harder center compound.

So far so good. I love these tires.
