They have a free concert tomorrow and the g/f would really like to see it, but only if it's a safe area. It's in west palm beach in the evening.

I go to cityplace all the time and have never had a problem, but I keep my eyes open and carry, everyday everywhere.

It's great. Plenty safe. At 7pm I wouldn't give it a second thought. We go there quite a bit. If you haven't been there, by all means go. You'll have a good time.

Umm, cityplace is surrounded by the ghetto. Just giving you a warning, dont stay after 12am. Should be a decent police presence though, given there will be an event going on. I recommend EWO (eyes wide open) on your 6 and make sure you carry. If you've ever heard of Tamarind Ave, thats the closest crime center of a road Palm Beach County has to offer in the area, right behind MLK Blvd.
Otherwise, like the other posters, I personally have never had a problem and its a decent place, just stay in the main area and dont wander around down the road where the stores aren't.

Thanks for all the info. We will only stay in the well lit areas and stay in the main area. We have never been their so we will watch out Tamarind Ave and MLK Blvd for sure.

I used to go to concerts off of Clematis (a couple blocks over from there) all the time when I was younger. If you ever get a chance to get on YouTube, look for the Gangstas and Thugs videos. It's a good look into what WPB is becoming. Many people won't believe those movies represent that area properly, but coming from someone that was dumb enough to work in that area and get held at gunpoint twice before I finally got my CCW, it's not worth the risk in my mind to venture anywhere outside of City Place when you're in that area. My wife and I don't go downtown anymore b/c there's Downtown at The Gardens and Legacy Place about 3 miles from where we live off of PGA.

I second this info. Be sure to park in the on site parking, even though you have to pay for it. Some of the streets, especially to the North of City Place, are to be avoided. Have fun at the concert.
Um....Yea,
There is a video that Palm Beach County Sheriff's office has. It is basically the local gangs beating the crap out of people at City Place. The video was made by the gang over a period of a month or two and was from about one year ago.
I will never go to City Place unless I absolutely needed to. City Place is one of those places I would carry 2 extra magazines.
After saying all this, I have never had a problem going there mostly because I go when it is daylight and it is a very short visit.
Oh, (sorry I'm a little scatterbrained)
Don't walk from City Place to Clematis. I did once when I was young and dumb... never again. Having your girlfriend get assaulted by a twelve year old is not fun.
EDITED TO ADD: Just noticed that you probably already went and that Lukepennell already said the thing about the videos....oh well.

I've been there plenty of times at night with no problems. Not late though, I am usually gone by 10. I do not worry about going to City Place.
I've been numerous times also, it's not as bad as what some are trying to make it out to be.
Speaking of Tamarind , theirs a cool bbq joint on that street that offers carryout only. It's located on 15th and Tamarind.

It's true. I won't go visit my in-law's sporting goods shop on Broadway south of Blue Heron w/o carrying my main and a backup. They've been there since 1968 and the first armed robbery attempt had to be while I was working BEFORE I was into guns. Nothing like having a .45 jammed in your ribs to change how you feel about firearms.

well, that store South of Blue Heron is in a war zone. But it's Riviera Beach.

It's true. I quit working there about a year ago because I was tired of having to watch my back in my place of business. In that one year I was attacked by a homeless guy trying to break into my car, had a Hipoint .45 jammed in my ribs, and had to draw on a guy that was reaching for his gun at the register while my uncle-in-law was ringing him up.
I finally decided starting my own business and not having to drive to the Raw every day was a good idea...

So is passive still alive?
And yes , Riviera Beach is a war zone. Dixie Hwy should just be put out its misery.

Sorry I didn't come back to the thread right away. We were both really disappointed. Not at the mall or the concert. But the fact that after we stopped at the ATM the car died and wouldn't start again. After waiting for an hour on a tow truck we got a new battery and found out the one AAA sold us 2 months ago was bad as the alternator and such works just fine.
The mall looks nice on the website, so we might be checking it out another day :)

That is insane! If I worked their I'd make sure it was a job I could use an even faster holster assuming the clothes and work allowed,

Before I quit I had a Glock 19 in my file cabinet, a SP101 on my left hip, and a Glock 26 on my right. I also convinced them that shotguns in both offices were good ideas.
They still have the shotguns (I believe), but everything else left when I did.

It's more than a mall. Check it out late on a Saturday afternoon before Christmas. It's very festive.

I also live in Gardens, and agree, City Place is great but the surrounding area is worth watching your six. I like CP but would be careful in the parking areas and as mentioned, if you stray beyond the shopping area- it was a run down sleazy neighborhood that was razed to put up the center. Around it is still spotty. There is underreported crime around it. And yes, above it is the bad part of WPB which runs into Riviera Beach, which is a s#$t hole of crime.
That being said, I also don't go to City Place much anymore since Palm Beach Gardens opened up numerous neighboring shopping centers like Legacy Place and Downtown at the Gardens, and now Midtown. Great stuff!! But I carry there too!!

Oh, to the OP.
the local music reviewer in the Palm Beach paper said that the show was excellent. I missed it, unfortunately.

At least they played well. I will just not tell my g/f about it, as she has forgotten about it now and she'd just be sad.

BTW all, Palm Beach Gardens area is getting a Gander Mountain, behind Home Depot on Northlake Blvd. They even have posted help wanted ads all over the internet, including for a gunsmith at the new store. Not sure when opening day is, but that location is almost in my back yard, should be fun!!!
Pass it every day on my way home on 95........can't wait
City Place is fine. Go and have fun. Don't leave and go exploring and you'll br fine.
Hello Avmech.
Welcome Adam....................I also noticed Beerboy is here with a different name:wavey:

Man, I grew up around there in west palm and remember Thursday night clematis by night. and then cityplace went up and everyone migrated there. I used to play in bands at all the venues down there and have walked with small groups of friends all over spanning from the kravis center through clematis and cityplace all the way down to flagler and even into palm beach ever since i was like 16. I left to go to school around 2002 so I didn't get to see it turn into the ghettoness that I read about. now that i've graduated college I'm thinking of moving back home but posts like these have got me all worried. well, at least my CCW permit should be arriving within a few weeks. I remember driving down tamarind because it was quicker to go palm beach lakes to downtown and i'd drive around with my windows down at night. however I do remember late one night after a gig we had a van full of gear and i saw the swat team bust into what looked like a crack house... that was scary...

They are still doing Clematis By Night on Thursdays. Tamarind is still the same too.:2gun:

I was watching some of the Gangsters & thugs videos on You Tube and a lot of the background in the fight scenes looked like City Place.
If I go there, I'm going to carry.

They have some good tips for people who do not carry and for people who do carry and a video for each one. Anyone in the local area might like to see this.
