Hi folks. I have recewntly been whittling down my handgun collection because I just don't do as much shooting anymore and also need to get rid of some bills. One handgun I did keep was my H&K P7M8. I really do plan on shooting this gun and even carrying it. My question to any of you is:
Since they stopped making these handguns and the magazines are almost impossible to get, how many mags do you have for your H&K P7's? I am talking about factory magazines made by H&K.
I know everyone I looked up and called said they were out of stock. If I find someone on one of the auction sites that have them the price is usually ridiculous. The other day someone was selling a used one on Gunbroker with a starting bid of $100.00.:wow:
Like I said, I want to make sure I have enough mags that they last me. I just wanted to know how many you guys keep for a P7 that you are going to carry and shoot.
One last question... Do the H&K P7M8 mags fit a Walther P5 and P5c? Also I have heard that the M8 mags work for the PSP's but not vice versa. True?
Thanks,
Eddie C.
CDNN gets a small shipment of them about once a year. They are $55 a piece and go FAST. Just keep checking. The last shipment sold out a month or two ago, so it may be a while.

Yeah, I called them the other day and the fella told me to call back in a few weeks.....
I'm sure I am a bad example...
M13 Mags - 12 Practice / Compitition Mags + 8 Carry Mags = total 20
(Practice mags - were all used - got lucky)
M8 Mags - 9 Mags (Practice/ Comp/ Carry)
3 mags per gun
I would say 5 to 8 mags would be good.
The HK mags are tuff - they should last the life of the gun. (Springs may need to be changed)
Now you have some good questions and I just don't know the answers. :embarassed:

Thanks Clyde. I always thought at least three per gun minimum. I guess that's from carrying years ago with a shoulder rig- one in the pistol and two off side. I think anywhere from 6 to 8 would be ideal. This way when you go shooting you can shoot a bit before reloading.
I believe I have at least 6 for most of my guns that use magazines, such as my Sig P220, my H&K P2000, and my S&W Performance Center Shorty 45. I have about a dozen Wilson 1911 mags for my 6 1911's. The only ones I am short on are my H&K P7M8 and my Walther P5 and P5c. Hence the reason for my question if they can use the same mags?
Thanks,
Eddie:embarassed:

Eddie, I checked to see if I could find any for you and came up with nothing. Everywhere I checked was empty. I can get the M13's but they are pricey little boogers.
I'll keep my eyes open for you though.

I picked a few P7M8's up off a guy on one of the auction sites. So I am set there for now. I am going to pick up a few mags for my Walther P5 and Walther P5compact. They both use the same magazine as the only basic difference in the two guns is the P5c has a shorter barrel which makes it weigh a couple of ounces less. The compact also has a standardized American magazine release on the handle behind the trigger, ala the 1911 Series of guns. The regular P5 has the European mag release at the heel of the grip.
The mags are ingenious in that they have a slit on the rear bottom for the heel release of the P5 and a triangular cut halfway up the front of the mag for the button release of the compact.
Both pistols use the same 8 shot mag. I have been looking for these mags and they are almost as tough to find as the P7M8's.
Now my dilemma is that Earl's Repair has both the new and used mags in blue and phosphate coated. He said phosphate coated is a black rust resistant coating that the military uses. Both of my P5's were hard chromes years ago and so were the three mags I had for them. Should I buy the blue ones and just have them hard chromed? Or should I buy the phiosphate ones at an extra $10.00 each and just keep them as they are? You only see the very bottom of the mag when it's in the gun anyways. I would pay $10.00 at least to have them hard chromed, maybe more. Then there is the shipping....
Should I buy new or used? People have said Earl's used stuff is pretty pristine. What do you guys think?
I have always bought plenty of guns but never paid attention to my magazines for each of my pistols. I thought I have a decent collection of guns right now that I am happy with. I should make sure I have enough magazines in case they stop making them.
