I'm tired of shooting at paper and would also like some freedom to practice drawing from a holster but I haven't had any luck locating any private outdoor or indoor ranges anywhere. Does anyone here have any information?

View Full Version : Private outdoor ranges in or around tampabay area? TM1 11-29-2007, 18:48 I'm tired of shooting at paper and would also like some freedom to practice drawing from a holster but I haven't had any luck locating any private outdoor or indoor ranges anywhere. Does anyone here have any information? Evenflo76 11-29-2007, 19:00 I just recently joined the 2nd Amenment Club. I have yet to shoot there yet. Hopefully I will this month. They have an Action Shoot every month. Details are here: http://www.secondamendmentclub.org/ TM1 11-29-2007, 20:06 Thanks, I may check into that although I'm really looking for one of those ranges where you can show up anytime you like and not have to adhere to any type of schedule or structured events. Does this club just let the range sit inactive for the other six days of the week? richhermes 11-30-2007, 05:34 Thanks, I may check into that although I'm really looking for one of those ranges where you can show up anytime you like and not have to adhere to any type of schedule or structured events. Does this club just let the range sit inactive for the other six days of the week? I do believe Hernando Sportsman Club fits this description. I've never been there, but I have friends that shoot there regularly. http://www.hernandosportsmansclub.com/ Evenflo76 11-30-2007, 06:35 Thanks, I may check into that although I'm really looking for one of those ranges where you can show up anytime you like and not have to adhere to any type of schedule or structured events. Does this club just let the range sit inactive for the other six days of the week? Yes, I believe so. The Range is on private land and only open certain days of the month. richhermes 11-30-2007, 08:29 I just recently joined the 2nd Amenment Club. I have yet to shoot there yet. Hopefully I will this month. They have an Action Shoot every month. Details are here: http://www.secondamendmentclub.org/ I was just looking over their website. It doesn't seem they are a very active club. The website was last updated in March of 2007 and the Supporters Page is out of date by three years. I could be getting the wrong idea. Are there any GT members that have attended a SA club event? Feedback? Opinions? I would love to join, but I'm not paying to belong to an inactive club. Evenflo76 11-30-2007, 08:53 Yes the website has not been updated recently. The club is small. I know they shoot twice a month. I have a friend who has been there for the female only classes. They also have a meeting once a month at resturaunt in West Pasco. I like the range fee aspect of the club. The dues are low and when there is a shoot, the fees are $5 for the day. My local pistol range charges $10 for a lane, $15 if you don't buy some ammo from them and you have to use their targets. Also, it is just a pistol range. With the club, I can bring my rifle and my pistols and shoot for much lower fees. I'll post more info after this months shoot. I'm told there is also a shooting club/ rifle range in St Pete. Don't know the name though. BringThaChaos 11-30-2007, 19:01 Anyone know of a private range in the Miami area? I'm tired of paying $15/hour MyGlockRocks19 12-05-2007, 22:39 Hey Evenflo, what local pistol range are you shooting at? The fee structure sounds like the one down the road from me. Also, if you live in Manatee county, the Manatee Gun and Archery club on SR-64 is pretty cool, their non-member fee is kinda steep, and the membership fee is outrageous, but the range is pretty decent and they have a machine gun range open on certain days. The firing line in Port Richey. It's a nice gun shop and indoor range. 8 lanes i believe. Gun prices are average. Ammo is too expensive. They are good people. I took my CCW class there. richhermes 12-20-2007, 23:11 Yes the website has not been updated recently. The club is small. I know they shoot twice a month. Evenflo76 12-21-2007, 08:30 How was the shoot with the 2nd Amendment club? Outstanding! I have been there twice now. On the 2nd Saturday of the month, we shoot on the range. Pistol and Rifle simultaneously. Same range! You could have rifle in one lane and the shooter next to you can be shooting pistol. On the 3rd Saturday we do an IDPA type defensive shoot. We had the range setup with moving targets, stationary targets and steel drop down targets. Also, there were some mock walls and windows put up to shoot through or around. The shooting was fun and all 12 of us that attended that day were able to shoot often. One member had his teenage grandsons come over and they were resetting the targets after every shooter to speed things up. Unfortunately, the rifle range is short at this time. Just about 35 Yards. The club is actively seeking new members and expanding the facilities. They have just built a new log cabin clubhouse with bath facilities and a classroom. The club is building a longer rifle range soon that will be separate from the pistol area. Also a permanent shooting house that will have ceiling fans for the summer, proper shooting benches and a roof. Right now they just have large tents, like the type use to cover an extra car or boat on a trailer. I have never shot at any of the other ranges in this area. I know the Hernando Sportsman Club is a larger facility and has just begun shooting IDPA. I don't know the fees their either. The range fees at the 2nd Amendment Club were $2 for range day, and $5 for Defensive shoot day. Also, the club provides the targets. With the first year membership fees being $37 and $25 after that, the club is far less expensive to shoot at than my local pistol range in Port Richey, also, I can bring my rifle along. I know the facilities are currently primitive, but for the price, I can't find anything better that is close to home. Also, the people are all very friendly. All ages are represented and a variety of weapons are always present. I was able to trade one member a box 7.62 for a box of .223 and try out his m4gery. I had never fired one before. The other members are anxious to help with their knowledge and always ask if you would like to try out their firearm. The club also has its own pistols that anyone can shoot. They just ask that you bring in your own ammo for them. There has also been talk about the club picking up reloading equipment to make ammo cheaper for members. By now you can tell, I am enjoying it plenty. I welcome anyone to come on down and join us. richhermes 12-22-2007, 23:10 WOW, that is very cool. I'll try to make the next shoot. I have my App. for the 2nd Amend. Club sitting right here. I was waiting on some good feedback to join.
