Sile Imports NORINCO AKM-47S preban...

Ok. For the folks in the know. I have a very good condition Chinese Norinco AKM-47S preban imported by Sile of NY, NY before the fed dot gov stopped them coming over by the cargo ship loads. I believe this one hit American shores in the late 80's but not for certain. I see by the auction boards they value anywhere from $750.00 to about $950.00 in good shape for the non-folders.

What's the general opinion of these preban, stamped receiver Chinese models ? Decent quality compared to others ? Are there a lot of these still floating around out there for sale ? My research doesn't give me a lot of information regarding the Norinco AKM-47S versions imported by Sile.

Chinese rifles are among the best. They have a great finish and offer good accuracy. Since they are not imported anymore the price is skyrocketing! Especially the legend series. Yours probably came in during mid to later 80s. Towards the end of the 80s is when the ban went into effect and the rifles were sent in as MAK-90s. No more since 94 into the US.

I have two "ban" Chinese rifles and like them a lot. They are accurate and look good. They were also inexpensive. After de-banning they only cost me $400 each. They are early imports (came in the late 80s) and still have some of the pre-ban features.
