I really did not remember when 21 years ago when I got carry permit, that we cant carry in a bank. This law is crazy! When banks are being held and people are being shot in daylight on a bank teller line , where is a better to have a gun!

Who said? Carry in a bank is not illegal in Florida.

The only banks you cant carry in a Federal Banks.

And what would that be?

You can't carry in the Federal Reserve, but you would have no reason to go into one either.

What are you talking about? Did you go to the wrong state or something? As others have said it is perfectly legal to carry at a bank in FL. I would too with all that cash laying around.

You won't find anything, because it is not against the law.

Where else would you want to carry?

Florida law states the limited number of places that carry is prohibited. If it is not prohibited, it is legal. Banks are perfectly legal.

If someone told you that, then they are an idiot. Sounds like it was some gunshop commando.

Normally I'm against any type of government mandated requirements especially regarding firearms but I'm starting to think that Gutmacher's book should be required reading for Florida concealed weapon license holders. There sure are a lot of misinformed people out there and that book is the only concise source of correct information that I'm aware of.

Not trying to be abrasive boarhunter, but after 21 years of being licensed I would expect you to know the laws well enough that you could almost recite them.

+1 on Gutmacher's book. And +1 that there is no restriction on bank carry in FL.

I've only had mine 2 years and I can almost cite the laws....

I like to know beyond a shadow of doubt what I can do. That way I don't have to worry.

If a place is not on this list, then it ain't on this list. Banks be fine.

There are states that honor FL permits that don't allow carry in banks. NC is one I'm aware of.

Keep in mind that many of the banks will attempt to place signage up stating no weapons (Wachovia has a quarter sized photo of a gun "x"ed out on the door, and a few other have large signs around Orlando) but its just the bank trying to pass off there own rules. Unless your caught, asked to leave, and don't, your not breaking the law.

About 5 years ago I stashed a old antique Colt in my saftey deposit box at my bank (left some food for it also). I later found out from a few friends in the industry that there is a bank regulation about firearms in deposit boxes, but its only if they know about it. This would not be a law, just a guideline the bank(s) try to follow..

Don't feel bad. There is a bank in the Tampa area that was on the local news. They just installed a metal detector doorway that LOCKS customers in between two doors if any metal is detected to prevent "bad guys with guns" from entering. I think this satisfies the "can't carry in a bank" criteria of this thread.

If that were MY bank... ya, you know what I'd do. :wavey:

So every customer carrying their car keys will be getting locked down?

Kind of makes you want to trip the alarm just for kicks. :tongueout: Test the system with an old crescent wrench or a Leatherman. Make the guards get tired of attacking the carpenters and plumbers cashing their paychecks.

wait... do they actually trap you in between the doors or can you still get out the way you came in? i would have a big problem being detained in such a manner when i have not broken any laws

It was on the local cable TV news (BN9.com) last year. I wasn't paying too much attention, but just reacted to the idea thinking, I stop banking there immediately if it were my bank.

I googled around and the few articles use the term "man-trap" to describe the security doors.

All the write ups on the metal detecting doors only refer to "bank in ... Florida..." with no specific bank named.

So what does this go for CCW holders in FL? They will lock me down and they want me to pull my gun out or something?

If someone trapped me it would be hard to not pull it out to fight my way to freedom. (I'm only half joking)

Well, here is what I would do.

1. Call the police and tell them I am being detained against my will.

2. Wait for the police to come and not give anything to the bank.

3. Once the police arrive I would see what I could do for false imprisonment charges. Which I don't think would stick.

4. If it were my bank I would then ask the police to escort me to the teller and cancel all my accounts.

the only sign ive seen in some fla banks is you cant approach the teller wearing a hat and sunglasses.
