If I'm reloading for IDPA do i need to reach a certain velocity???

You need to make a certain "power floor" as IDPA calls it. 125,000 for SSP, ESP and SSR. 165,000 for CDP and ESR. Multiply your bullet weight times muzzle velocity to get your power floor. No one will really check at local club matches but major matches usually have a chronograph and if you fall below the power floor you get a DQ from the match.
