View Full Version : Anyone ever shoot "UMC" Ammo?
I've put about 6 boxes of this stuff through my G23. Seems to be fine.
Any reason I shouldn't keep buying the cheap stuff at Wal-Mart?

I have shot UMC which is made by Remington and found it to be some what dirtier than Winchester (ie leaves more of a deposit so you clean a little harder) other than that it's nice stuff.

I shoot this stuff all the time. Buy it by the case at sportsmans guide. I have put 1700 or so through my 22 with no problems

Its dirty and gives a pretty mild recoil, it works. Right now I'm working my way through a case of Blazer but UMC hasn't been any trouble for me.
I shoot the stuff all the time...like the price at Walmart. It does seem a little on the dirty side and the muzzle flash is like an orange fireball...but since it's for target shooting, it doesn't really mattter.
I also shoot the Winchester target loads that Walmart sells too. It's $10.95 for a box of 100. The price is definitely right. All the stuff I said about the UMC ammo applies as well.
I've probably shot 2000 rounds of the Winchester stuff and 500 rounds of the UMC...never a problem with a failure to feed or a jam.
Go for it...shoot more!

Yeah that sums it up, cheap and dirty:) nothing wrong with that tho, when walmart is out of the winclean thats what i use.
Wish walmart would carry wolf, I wouldnt mind paying $6 a box.

Hmmm, never seen that stuff. The UMC is the cheapest I can find at $11/50.

I'm thinking the $10.95 for a box of 100 is most likely a typo. I use Winchester White Box from Wal-Mart all the time. It's $10.95 for 50 rounds.
If you were correct in this statement I might have to start buying my target ammo from your Wal-Mart. :)

"UMC" is Remington fodder, and good stuff - not necessarily cutting edge in somes senses, thus dirtier, perhaps, but major brand.
I like the UMC name - I can recall my grandmother having a number of UMC promo items in her apt, including a black cloth featuring a cougar on a rock - from her days as a yhoung woman, loading ammo at the Union Metalic Cartridge Factory in Bridgeport Ct, for our boys in WWI. She had a few sample .50 rounds in a drawer.

DLittle signs of as "love my G26" or something to that effect. He must be referring to the Winchester USA bulk pack (100 rounds) for the 9mm ammo. You're not going to find .40S&W at that price anywhere.
UMC's not bad. The popular priced stuff (UMC, Winchester USA, Federal American Eagle, S&B, Speer Lawman, etc.) will pretty much perform the same as long as you stick to a major manufacturer.
Keep away from 'American' brand. It's copper coated, not Full Metal Jacketed, and will foul your Glock, possibly to the point of failure (same as shooting lead).

I have shot quite a bit of UMC through my G22 with no problems. I prefer American Eagle or WinClean, but the UMC does great in a pinch.
Same here, works fine just a little messy. Blazer
& PMC are some others I've used. ;c =;f
UMC is all I use, with no problems out of my G23. Wally World has it for $18.95 100rd value pack all day long by me in NY.

i have put a couple thousand rounds of UMC through my 23 as well. no problems whatsoever. i will say, i recently shot wincleans through it at my last IDPA match and i really liked that round A LOT. imo, it actually shot better. and only a dollar more a box, it is worth it.
FYI. I just picked up a 100 box of UMC at WM for $17.96. With tax it came to $19.13. I plan to pick up a box or two each time I drift through a WM. Kind of the easy pay plan for ammo acquisition...

I took the empty box back to Waly so they could run the stock number in the computer. I paid $17.95 per 100 in the value pack. They told me that they were unable to order anymore in the value pack. They had $11 something per 50 rds but that's not a god deal.
The 9MM is $10.95 per 100 rds for the value pack.
Info from California Wal Mart.

I've shot cases of the stuff through my 3 (well, the city owns one of them) .40cal pistols, and never had any sort of problems. I pay $8.50 per 50rnd box at a local shop.

Be carefull with Wolf, a freind of mine used to use it in his 9mm sub, and we noticed some rounds were hotter than others. We have had very good luck with Sellier & Bellot ammo, brass cased and only a little more expensive than Wolf.

In about 1000 rounds of 40s&w UMC I have had 1 failure in my USPc that was just a dead round, It has otherwise worked perfectly, I usually switch beteen UMC and Win White box, Bothe are about $11 a box at wally world.

I just shot a box of UMC Ammo and loved it! I wish I could find a place that I can buy it in bulk. No luck locally.
Local Wal-Mart here has the 165 gr. and the 180 gr. Win. White box for less than $9/box. Do Wally-World's prices vary regionally?

UMC is all that I shoot. It has never givin me any problems what so ever. For the price, the quality is certianly there.
It is a bit dirty but worth the money. I would rather spend more time cleaning my pistol then spend 3 more dollars on a box of over priced ammo.
Another plus for me is, my 1911 feeds it really good. I gotta be happy wit that.

I bought 2 boxes of UMC 45 FMJ and noticed sharp half moon slivers of brass between the bullets and the cartridge. I found a total of 5 slivers in the 100 rounds that could have come of and jammed in my gun.I checked out all the bullets carefully and won't buy any more myself. I will stick with the Win Cleans from now on.
I buy blazers if I can...
UMC if I can't, also umc is remington (And uses remington brass) which is my personal fav for reloading.
Both umc and blazers are dirty. (But I like cleaning my guns.)
If they don't have either, I guess I'd have to go with winchester, federal, etc.
Wolf can stay on the shelf as far as I'm concerned.

Wally World prices do vary, even within the same town. Closest Walmart only stocks Win USA 180 gr for $10.95 / 50. Walmart 15 miles away near parents stocks 165 gr and 180 gr for $8.95 / 50. Same price at a Walmart in Cleveland last week, $8.95 / 50 for 165 gr. Makes no sense.

The UMC works fine as practice ammo in my G31. I tryed some also in my Kimber Ultra, not so good out of that gun.
Lesson learned for me; my Glock eats anything I feed it. :)
