View Full Version : Business travel to Detroit .. CCW?
I know it's always a good idea to carry but I typically only concern myself with Ohio law. That's where I'm from. When I travel It's almost always on a plane.
Next week I'm driving to Detroit for business training classes. I know the downside of getting caught with a firearm while in a company car on company business.
My question is what's the requirement if stopped in Mi.? In Ohio you have to declair your a CCW card holder and that you have a firearm.
Last question, since I cannot take the Glock into training class should I leave it in the Hotel someplace or lock it in the glove compartment?

I wouldn't leave it in your glove compartment or the main compartment of the car. Best place is in your trunk if you have one...
Any body that leaves a gun in their car should have some sort of safe or lock box that is cabled the the car that can not be removed from the car very easily. I have a lock box cabled to the frame of the seats. the only way to get it out is to know the combination or a torch.
What stops you from taking the gun to the training class?
Welcome to Detroit. Please bring extra ammo. I prefer .223/5.56 and please no Wolf. Don't forget to bring your lock box with you.
why can't you take your gun? is it on a college campus?
basic rules apply. if there are restrictions listed on your license, you have to follow them. if you abide by OH laws, you'll be more than covered, since they are stricter than MI laws.
imo, ianal, etc etc.

I would get a lock box that will fit into your briefcase and keep the pistol locked there rather than in your car in Detroit.
I have done this a number of times. You can leave the mag in the car to go one step further.

Ask them for their driver's license and registration...see how they like it! :crying:
