I am looking at the Bushmaster m4a3 patrolmans carbine. I love the way it looks with a carry handle and also with optics on the flattop. I might switch back and forth with the optics and carry handle. Will the iron sights on the carry handle hold zero after being removed and then reinstalled? What about the red dot. Will I have to sight it in every time I put it back on?
I've been wondering the same thing. Anybody know?

Assuming you mount it to the same spot (which is why flattop receivers have numbered slot markings) zero should (SHOULD) stay the same. Test it a couple times.

Maybe and maybe not. If you want definate return to zero get a Larue fixed BUIS and a Larue mount for whatever dot optic you go with. Then you can take them off and put them back on as many times as you wish, and they will both return to zero.
Elevation zero will hold.
Unless you torque the carry handle on and zero and then retorque to the exact amount each and every time the windage zero will wander a little bit and you may have to adjust a couple clicks left or right for perfect windage.
No biggy on a combat type rifle.
A real pain on a 600 meter match rifle which the patrolmans carbine definately isn't.
