I'm supposed to be heading down there Saturday, but never been before. Just wondering what all they have down there. I'm guessing we have to bring our own target stands. Is skeet shooting allowed? What distances can you shoot at? How crowded is it normally? Fill me in.
I have not been there but I have talked to some people who are members of my gun club and they had some bad stories about the place. One close friend spoke of people messing with their guns while others were down range posting targets. I have also talked to people that say they would not shoot there alone, they would have a buddy stay at the firing line to watch their stuff while they posted targets. I have one guy at work that says he likes to shoot there. I got lucky when I moved to central Fl there just happened to be a gun club 5 minutes from my house, otherwise I would probably be shooting out there also. Good luck let me know how it went.

I'm going down there with my dad and some other people so there should be someone to watch the line. No problems with messing with the vechicals I hope. I'll probably just keep most of it there until ready to shoot. I knew I should have picked up a cheap OTB range holster yesterday.
So did you go? How was it? Just interested to know.

I went, it was pretty full, and it wasn't uncommon to see a chunk of target stand (2x4) go flying from being repeatedly shot. A guy showed up with a full auto SBR and blasted off a 30rd mag. He then tried to get the guy next to me to let him turn his ar15 into full auto. Said he had a drop in sear in his pocket and it would only take a few seconds. I saw him do one more mag (from the hip) before leaving. I think it would be a good range with just a couple other people, but with it being full I didn't find it very enjoyable. People didn't care that a cold line meant not to handle firearms, and didn't mind handling other people guns while they weren't there to look at them.
Yeah that is exactly the crap I heard about. I dont think I will be shooting there. Thanks for the update.

CTW,
You said you are a few minutes from a club. Where do you shoot?

I also have heard horror stories about the range in the Oacla National Forest.
I have never shot there myself.
I understand there is another shooting club in Ocala ,

Oh no ... I hadn't been out there in a couple of years and was gonna take the wife out to play with my Christmas present. :tree:
This update saved me a long, long drive.
I was there once many years ago and will not go back. When I went there was no rangemaster or anyone in authority. It was like a free for all.
I witnessed most of the above things so I guess much has not changed.

Its not a bad place to shoot if you go in the morning on a weekday. Normally no one else there or just a few "more mature" people. Forget about going any afternoon or on the weekends if you care one bit about personal safety. Some of the people out there are so willy nilly it is scary.
