View Full Version : Gratuitous pic of my AR
If you also saw my pic post in the AK club, yes I was quite the shutterbug tonight. ;) I had to try out my new tri-pod somehow.
S&W M&P15T (early, 3 digit serial number)
Pieced together Surefire tac-light (6P LED body and bulb, Z32 bezel, SF beam cover, SF pressure switch tailcap, Vltor light mount). I am very pleased with how it came out.
Aimpoint CompM (the old model) on an ARMS mount with the full spacer.
Grip-pod GPS-02 VFG
A Beretta 92FS and a Spyderco Carbon Fiber Military round out the pic.

Very nice! :)
Thanks for replies. The funny thing is that even with all the crap on my AR, it is still lighter than my AK which has nothing on it (though not by much).
Very nice. Now go build up another.

Nice knife!
(sorry, I had to do it.) ;)
Nice looking setup. I just got a CTR stock the other day, and I love it.
I have a Spydie like that one with the BG-42 blade. It weighs nothing, and is wicked sharp.

Next one will probably be a flat-top 20" with a low power scope and will probably have at least a CMMG upper.
After that, a KISS AR.

Fully agree about the CTR and the knife. I am quite fond of everything in that pic actually. My AR works great, the Beretta shoots great, and the knife is awesome. I had to be super careful when placing/removing the knife from there to keep from slicing up my bedspread that it is sitting on. That thing is soooo freaking sharp.
Talk to me about the light, pressure switch and light cover.
Talk to me about the light, pressure switch and light cover.
All Surfire items bought at a gunshow (there is a great flashlight place that is there everytime).
I was originally going to use a G2 or G3, which is what the Vltor mount was made for. But when I was going to buy my light, I noticed the G2 LEDs were out. I didn't have the cash on me that day for one, so I came back the next day and they were out, but they had a 6P LED that they gave me an awesome deal on (only like $10 more than what they wanted for the G2 LED). The LED versions are brighter and have about 10 times the run time (something like 12 hours on a set of batteries compared to about an hour to and hour and a half) as their incandescent counterparts. I had already purchased the Surfire shock isolated bezel as I thought I would be using an incandescent light, so I just went ahead and used it. The beam cover is again a SF unit that is sized for the new larger bezel. The pressure switch is an older SF unit that they sold to me for half price. It is the same as the new one, just it does not have a removable cable like the new one. It was $50 compared to $100, so I went with it.
BTW I had two of those Tac-star pressure switches. They are horrible compared to the actual SF unit. I had two because one didn't work right. It would turn the light on if you wiggle the cord. I got a replacement and it did the exact same thing. I knew then I had to cough up the cash for the real deal.
I wound up with an all Surefire light that still cost me about half of what they want for one of their dedicated weapon lights.

Magpul PMAG. They are relatively new, but gaining in popularity very fast.

I am not finding a surefire pressure switch. Are you sure it isn't another brand?
I am looking for one that I will use on a G2.

Nope it is a Surefire unit. I don't believe it is on their website. They seem to want to hide them (I think the product number for mine is UU02). I think it is to try and get people to buy their more expensive weaponlights instead. I would find a Surefire dealer somewhere. I have the card for the place I got mine. I don't think they have a website though, but they do have a phone number.
Remember, mine is no longer made. The one with the replaceable cord (so you can used different length pressure switch cords for different guns) is the current one and it costs more.
I think it is sort of like tracking down a Remington 870P instead of an express. They are out there and being currently made, but are hard to find.
Here is an AR15.com EE ad for the new one. It is sold, but gives you an idea what to look for, Mine is the same thing but the wire just goes directly into the cap.

you know, you could duct tape that beretta 92 to the front pistol grip on your ar, if you wanted to hang some more crap on it.
what ever happened to the KISS philosophy on weapons?
:tongueout:

I have a VFG, a light, and an optic. That is considered overkill now?
I have a Mosin Nagant. That makes any AR-15 look like an overly complicated contraption, even your KISS rifles. Hell it makes my Enfield No.4 MkI look positively futuristic. How about my iron sighted AK? My peep sighted Winchester 94? Is that KISS enough?
Some of us have more than one gun.

I guess it all depends on what you need.
For some KISS is a:
Single shot shotgun with just a bead
or
a bolt rifle with iron sights
or
a stripped AK
or
a stripped AR (A1 upper)
or
an M4
or
In this case a M4 clone with a light (although I really don't get the globe cover)

SWEEEEEET! Nice rifle!

Just keeps the lens clean. Also it blocks ALL the light. You can be in a pitch black room, sqeeze the tape switch and you won't see any light at all even though there is 85 lumens just behind it. Then just push a button and it flips completely out of the way (folds flat).
The VFG also has a bipod in it. I could have had a seperate bi-pod and VFG. But this is much more compact and lighter.
Before people start yammering on about shooting 800 yards of something silly, outside my house I can't throw a rock without hitting something. I have NO NEED to shoot that far with this gun. It is a home defense gun and I set it up as such (thus the light, the VFG, the non-magnified optic). Besides anything past about 50 yards is no longer self defense and you are going to have a hell of a time proving it is.
People laugh at "mall ninjas", but some of those same people seem to think they need to shoot people half a mile away. This isn't WWI. Hell, even soldiers in WWII didn't shoot much past 100 yards.
BTW as I mentioned earlier. My AR is STILL lighter than my AK (I weighed them). So I don't want to hear about how it is now such a heavy rifle when the AK isn't considered too heavy. It just has better sights, a way to see in the dark (and blind an attacker at close range), and allows for better control of the muzzle.

Thanks. Next time you visit Eagle Creek on a Sunday, let me know and I will bring it if you want to play with it. It will have to be with the .22 kit though, unless I beg enough. ;)

Although I don't think it is necessary, I will probably be doing something like that in the future as I add a IR filter to a weapon light.

I just use it because my there is no disable switch. It doesn't disable it but the end result is the same.
