View Full Version : Lasagna in an electric skillet?
Anyone tried this?
The only thing I'd be worried about is that the top wouldn't brown.
You could brown it with a torch...
I 've seen recipes for "skillet lasagna" but they are nothing more than "from scratch" versions of Hamburger Helper.
I think I'll pass on this experiment. Lasagna isn't cheap to make and I'd hate to spend all that dough on a cooking method that would probably turn out less than decent.
I make two lasagnas when I go to the trouble and expense. I bake one and freeze one. When I want it, I just pop the frozen one into the oven and it is great.
Hamburger Helper is good and I had it twice this week but it is not lasagna and I wonder how it would work. Seems like it would get too dry around the bottom and edges and not all melty-gooey in the middle in addition to the not-browing issue.
There is no way I would try skillet lasagna. That is one of those things that you just can't improve or shortcut.
I've done it a couple times and it turned out good...
Put some cheese and onions on the bottom and the bottom can get 'crusty'...
Since the top doesn't get browned, it's nice...
Also, for added moisture I pour a glass of red wine over the whole thing...
Actually, I've used uncooked lasagna noodles, and just used red wine and a liquidy sauce,
and baked the whole thing...
Then the noodles are infused only with the recipe's ingredients...
I like a brown crusty top, so when it's for show I do it in the oven...
