View Full Version : Are Yugo AK's with Underfolders better?
I've never owned an AK before. I had an SKS that I got tired of blowing the dust off, so I sold it with the intent of buying an AK, but ended up with an AR instead. Now, I have like 700 rounds of 7.62 laying around, so I did the logical thing - I am buying an AK (funny - my wife says the logical thing is sell the ammo - that never occurred to me ;))
Anyway, the one I have purchased and am waiting for is a Yugoslavian Underfolder model M70AB2, new-in-the-box. I paid probably another $100 or more for this over a Romanian because I heard the Yugo's are the ****... did I waste my money? Or are they that much better built?
Stupid question after-the-fact, I know, but now I want reassurances.
Just for the record, I don't mind spending more for a better put together firearm with a better finish, stock, etc.
I really like my M70AB2. I shoot it as well as a Gordon Tech milled Bulgie, and it looks more cool. You will be happy with it.

I'd rather have a fixed stock than an underfolder, and I would rather have a side folder over anything.
Underfolder, or fixed is all personal opinion, I have a underfolder, and like it, the butt is wider and sits better on my shoulder.

I like the underfolders the best. The Yugo is very accurate and very well made. Here is mine...

Thanks! That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for - confirmation! ;)
Seriously, the accuracy etc. is what I'm concerned about. The underfolder I got because I never had one. I HATE side folders... the butt is too thin. YMMV

In that case, you screwed up.
Yes the Yugo is better than the Romanian and worth the extra money.
But for accuracy, you need to go with a milled rifle with a standard stock like a SA-M7 from Arsenal Inc.
Then again, the AK is a fighting rifle not a target rifle and that ammo is not match ammo.
That being said, I think you will be happy with the Yugo AK underfolder. I have one in wood.

My DPMS Panther is for the distant stuff... An extra Benjamin is worth a little more accuracy... an extra 5 Benjamins for the Arsenal is more than I am looking for.
And THANKS! I hope I'll be happy with it out to 100 yds anyway.

You'll be happy out to 300 if you do your part.

I went to buy a Bushmaster M4 with collapsable stock & came home with my M70AB2 underfolder. For the price, it's well made & can't be beat, IMHO.
Reason & wanted a stock that could be shortened is because there's no telling where I might need to deploy it, and I want to be able to do so in confined spaces (like a home hallway or auto) if necessary.

Fits pretty good in a double racket tennis bag too.

(Used a 20 round "tankers mag" for a better fit)

Underfolders look pretty cool, but I don't like the fit and feel of them. I can't get a good cheek weld, mainly. I DO like that UF in the tennis bag, though!
I think you'll be very happy with the Yugo.. I have an underfolder in wood.. same model your getting, and I'm totally happy with it. It shoots amazingly well for a 500 dollar AK.. I've spent some time with milled bulgarian rifles such as the Arsenal SAM-7.. and the Yugo shoots just as well and actually, and this particular case, has a better factory trigger than both of my other AK's ( Arsenal and Armory ) The folding stock will be one of those things.. some people are ok with it, some aren't. My take is that it isn't comfortable.. and obviously, not as solid as a fixed stock, but it's ok for what it is.. I actually bought the Yugo because it had the folding stock..
Bottom line.. for a 500 dollar AK, the Yogo is terrific.. It's a great choice and I wish you all the best and lot's of good shootin'
Cheers

I've owned two WASR's and the Yugo is so much better built. You cant go wrong for the price. Besides, it's an AK. Just buy it.
