I am going to be in the DFW area Dec 12-14th. I am looking to visit some ranges and gun shops. Which are the best one's?
dunno about the rest of the metroplex, but in Fort Worth you should check out:
Elk Castle Sporting Goods, north side of I30 near Cherry Lane. Indoor range, big shop, good selection of used/new guns, lots of hunting stuff and trophy mounts.
Cabelas, I35 north heading to Denton, close to Alliance Airport. AWESOME shopping place, w/restaurant, gun library, aquarium, and azzloads of guns/hunting stuff/trophy mounts to look at.
Winchester Gallery, Lancaster near the Loop 820 junction. Great selection of older/used guns, indoor pistol and rifle range, neat place.
Bullet Trap Inc in Plano just south of Parker on Hwy 5. Indoor range, mostly pistol but some rifle bays, rentals, and nice gun shop.
Bass Pro in Grapevine is like $8/hour to shoot - not sure that they have rental guns there (never checked). DFW Gunrange seemed to have a pretty decent array of rentals, but they're on the expensive side (as is Bullet Trap).
Really depends on the weather and where you're staying and if you're bring your own guns.

Whoa! You can shoot at Bass Pro in Grapevine?? Is it in the store itself or somewhere close by? Been there a few times and never saw a gun range

Can you be a little more specific on where you're going? The DFW area is pretty big.

In the store - if you go in the door by the gun stuff, walk along the gun counter and take a right and head through the door. There's like 7 pistol lanes and a rifle tube downstairs.

Thanks, I'll have to check that out

yes, they have a pistol range with about 12 lanes indoors and I believe 1 rifle tube.
I shoot at the pistol range there all the time.
Holy cow, I am close to Bass Pro Grapevine, and drive to Fort Worth to shoot.

Um - it's 7 pistol lanes - usually a couple target holders are shot off/broken. Rifle tube downstairs is by appt only, and you must have optics installed = no iron sights.
$8 per shooter per hour either one. No rapid fire. At least now they allow silhouttes. Stand there like a drone and go bang (pause) bang...
This would be why me and the wife joined a private club.
