If I trade a rifle for a handgun, do I need any paperwork. This is a private trade.

Handgun transfers in PA have to go through an FFL

FTF Rifle trades are OK assuming that the buyer can legally own a firearm. I'd make up a bill of sale just for CYA purposes.

FTF transfers are fine, same as rifles.

I should have broken it down as handgun transfers through FFL and long gun transfers FTF.
