View Full Version : nuclar 40 S/W hand load info wanted
As I live in a country where Gorgia Arms Ammo is not available
I would like to duplicate or exceed Gorgia Arms Ammo sheer power plus, (+p+ 155gr gold dot).I would be using this in a H&K USP EXPERT with a fully supported jarvis barrel. What velocity could I expect from the 132mm barrel? Any person with experience using nuclar 155gr gold dot loads your comments and expertise would be appreciated.
Thanks HK exp

The only help I can give is to search in the Reloading area, or repost this over there.
Is that +P+ a .40 load? I didn't think .40 came in +P loads.

Do you have a reloading manual? Do you the velocity of the "+p+" (ha ha ha) rounds?

there are no +p loads for the .40 cartridge the .40 is already loaded to as high a pressure as it can go without problems.
however, if you wanted to use maximum or near maximum pressure .40 loads the gun you have is an ideal platform, especially with that tighter chambered jarvis barrel. The thick chamber walls of the hk pistol barrel design are very resistant to high pressures.
try using imr 800x powder for nuke loads
800x load data found here
http://www.imrpowder.com/
800x is a flake powder that does not meter well. If you use this powder you will have to hand weigh every charge, but it works great for building nukes.
I suggest that you not use nuke loads at all, but if you insist in trying to get there, work up to the max load slowly like .1/point one grain at a time and do not exceed the recommended maximum amount of powder that is given by the manufacturer of the powder. do not start at the maximum charge.
you will know you have too much pressure if the primers get completely flat, later there will be a point where the case starts to deform or shrink or the cases get stuck in the barrel because of the excessive pressure. you will definitely know there is too much pressure if the primer blows out or vanishes.
I suggest speer hollow point bullets.
do not load .40 rounds shorter than 1.125"
use a lee factory crimp die, this die makes very reliable feeding, correctly sized ammunition.

Hornady Fourth Edition, look up the blue dot load for the 155 XTP. If that doesn't set your hair on fire I don't know what will.
.40 +P?
Now I know where the Darwin Awards people get their material.

I'd sell the HK and buy a Glock 10mm. If that's not an option, I'd trade the HK in on a soft air gun.;f
