I'm FED-UP!!!
...for always being swayed to the side to give way to passing LEOs and "unmarked" vehicles with WANG WANG
Kanina, while traversing southbound the heavy-trafficked SLEX- was thinking very hard:
1. why bike riding uniformed LEO's are allowed to be escorts of SOBs. WE PAY THEIR SALARIES to be escorts? Securities, close-in or not, are provided by PSPO and when assigned to a BIG-SHOT-TRAPO, usually drives/stays in back-up vehicle(s). They already have close-in securities, why the escorts pa? WHY ARE THEY ALWAYS IN-A-HURRY? SECURITY REASONS? Even on sundays. Do they have sessions on sundays?

2. why do lots of vehicles now bear WANG WANG?
Correct me if I'm wrong. The only ones, AGAIN, THE ONLY ONES, allowed to have and use WANG WANG are: President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, MARKED POLICE VEHICLES & AMBULANCES

Why the heck even private vehicles swerve thoroughfares with WANG WANG?

Minsan sa sobra inis ko may nilabanan ako sa gitgitan na panay ang WANG WANG. I was ready to pull out my Diana if ever the driver/or passengers of other vehicle will start something bad. In one corner, the driver alighted. I went down. He just shouted P.I.M. I replied P.I.M. din!!! There was a cop nearby and pacified both of us. It turned out that the driver...is a driver of a former city COUNCILOR. PWEH!

Finding that "palaban ako" he drove away-murmuring "matapang kayo kasi mayaman kayo". MAYAMAN? I'm NOT and that's NOT the point of controversy.
I just shouted...GAG_!!!

3. why are there NO measures done by authorities with regard to this WANG WANG? Is it because even the authorities, themselves, are guilty of bearing these WANG WANGs?

A lot of the so called "public servants" denounce corruption-corruption-corruption. Inspect their vehicles...BULAGA!!! WANG-WANG. They are NOt allowed by law to bear such. That's usurpation of authority. And when you usurp-you are corrupt!

I for one am with you on this matter. I have also had it with this wang wang crap. I have had a few incidents with these types also. So far the worst one was mahabang gitgitan on SLEX and the driver and passenger were trying to show me that they were drawing their weapons lalo ko silang ginitgit. Any way I am one of those who has had it with these wang wang types but the authorities does not seem to want to do anything about this.

Another thing that really annoys me is that police vehicles more often than not are the very first ones to violate traffic rules. Sometimes Im already thinking that the likelihood of having a dangerous confrontation with a cop is as likely as having a dangerous confrontation with bad elements.

Then those as$%^&les, even if they are going to the direction of NAIA, blocked 3 lanes (red light) including those turning right to quirino ave.. Im sure puro drivers and alalays yun at magsusundo siguro ng amo nilang kagawad (hahahahhahaha)....

Ive had first hand experience how traffic violators are treated in several US states (parang guilty ah .. heheheh) and I must say that they are no way near how our officers conduct their business here ..... nakakahiya talaga .. Siguro pag tinanung sila kung ano ang trabaho ng pulis di nila alam e...the usual answer? Wala po ako nang tinuro yun e.. hahahahahahhahahaha ...

CEBU CITY, Philippines - The police chief of Moalboal town, Cebu who suffered a motorcycle accident died on Wednesday.

He was not wearing a crash helmet.

Insp. Gil Manriquez Limosnero, 47, died a week after he was thrown off a motorcycle and landed head first on the pavement.

His companion, SPO2 Remberto Empeynado, who was wearing a helmet, survived with minor injuries.

Two weeks ago Cebu Provincial Police Office director Carmelo Valmoria his men, through a memorandum, for motorcycle-riders especially policemen, to wear helmets.

Limosnero, a resident of San Fernando town, died at 9 p.m. Wednesday at the South General Hospital in Naga City, where he was confined after the accident last Dec. 5.

Limosnero was the passenger of a motorcycle driven by his subordinate, Empeynado. A rear tire exploded causing the motorcycle to zigzag on the road before it crashed and threw both passengers to the ground.

The two were on their way from Cebu City to Moalboal when the accident occurred at 11:20 p.m. on Dec. 5 in barangay Lawaan, Talisay City. /Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan with a report from Correspondent Rene F. Alima

Close this MANILA, Philippines -- I agree wholeheartedly with Gerry Los Baños, who wrote a letter here last Monday commenting on the incident in which a cop fired a shot at former provincial governor Josefina de la Cruz’s car and mauled one of her drivers in an accompanying vehicle afterward. Los Baños says his sympathies were with the driver, Eduardo Magsakay, until he learned that the reason the cop, Jethro Lim, did so was that Magsakay, who was part of a convoy escorting De la Cruz, had cut off Lim from overtaking the convoy and nearly sideswiped him.

Magsakay’s defense was that he was merely following standard procedure in escorting VIPs, which is to regard anyone overtaking a convoy as a threat to security. Which provoked Los Baños to say: “Last I checked, roads were public property, with every licensed driver having equal right to them. What is it that gives government officials the idea that they, more than others, should be given the privilege of enjoying a larger space of the road?”

Los Baños recalled that he himself had been a victim of that same bullying tactics, his attempts to overtake a slow-moving Revo van escorted by a motorcycle cop being thwarted violently by the Revo swerving to his side with the intention of flicking him off the road. His wife was with him at that time on the very side the Revo was threatening to ram into, and Los Baños reacted to it by blasting his horn. The Revo retorted by blaring out a siren. Fortunately for Los Baños, the confrontation got no further than that.

“How many Filipino drivers have been victimized by siren-blaring vehicles of senators, congressmen, mayors, etc? Aren’t these convoys illegal in the first place? Why are the powers-that-be doing nothing while the law is being broken in such a visible and noisy manner? There are few proofs better than this that show that the rich and powerful in the Philippines are exempt from following the law.”

I would hazard that the number of Filipino drivers who have been victimized that way is huge, given that every Christmas when traffic becomes an even bigger nightmare that topic inevitably crops up in all the parties I go to. It’s everybody’s pet peeve. Fortunately, storytellers have managed to live to tell their tale, though in some instances, only by the skin of their teeth. Or at least not without seeing a gun waved in their faces from the retracting windows of the Black Car.

I’ve been a victim of the same thing. I was going to the Ateneo de Manila University some years ago, trying to make it on time for a talk through the early morning traffic, when I ran into a slow-moving parade of cars on Katipunan Avenue. My mind being occupied by my talk, I did not notice it was a convoy ferrying God-Knows-Whom. They were occupying a couple of lanes. As I tried to squeeze past them, such as that was possible with the battalion of cars, jeepneys and school buses, around me, I got loud honks from the convoy. One of the cars tried to cut me off, probably feeling doubly insulted by the idea of a battered-down, decade-old Mitsubishi EL intruding on what they presumed to be their sovereign space. I barged on anyway, but not before seeing the driver’s window roll down and a face emerge its mouth spouting French. I rolled down my own window and raised a dirty finger at it.

I know I shouldn’t do those things, but those are moments when you do not think. Which is also quite incidentally why I keep arguing against allowing guns in cars: They are an engraved invitation to mayhem. Fortunately for me, by the time this happened I was nearing the Ateneo gate and the light at the corner had just turned left (this was before the U-turns). Even more fortunately for me, the car did not follow me to the Ateneo. Though it would have been just as unfortunate for him, or worse, had he done so, as I would truly have crucified him afterward.

Most everyone I know has a horror story of this sort, which gets to be told especially at this time of year in gatherings. It never fails to stoke people to fury. So, to echo Los Baños’ lament, why does this atrocity continue to bedevil us? Or more to the point, why do we allow it to do so?

Some time ago, Raul Gonzalez justified it by saying that public officials deserve the privilege because they are doing more important work than the ordinary citizens and should therefore not be deterred in any way from doing it. Trust that idiot to make idiotic statements like that. At the very least, what makes it idiotic is that if the current occupant of Malacañang is widely perceived as the most corrupt and murderous president in modern (and probably not just so) Philippine history, and if public officials, particularly appointive ones, are there to help her carry out those functions, then it behooves us to deter them in every possible way, not least by snarling them in traffic. That way they can steal and murder less. At the very most what’s idiotic about it is that I, an ordinary citizen, do a lot more intelligent things in one day than Gonzalez will ever do in his lifetime.

There is no justification for it, and if you still need proof of it, you have this to show how over the last few years democracy has turned to autocracy, equality and fraternity have turned into rank and privilege, decency and consideration have turned into iniquity and oppression. To find comparisons for the way the convoys of Very Important Persons, or the Feeling Important Persons, demand to have a clear road ahead of them you have to go back to antiquity, to the time when Roman generals rode on chariots and their drivers lashed out with a whip at the slaves cluttering up the road to get out of the way. That situation on our roads today says a great deal about the road we’ve taken as a country of late.

The road to perdition.

PM received sir and duly replied.

By the way, just want to share my experience with not really wang wangs but with gun carrying thugs...

One was with a gramps, I was about to overtake because he stopped ( he did because of a stockpile of aggregates on the road, typical sa mga may paconstruction na sa kalsada nakatambak muna) then went back on line when I saw the situation, I guessed he misinterpreted it and said some expletives followed up with saying "may baril ako" 9I have a gun) and showed me the bag containin supposedly the gun.. I just said to him "just drive away gramps" (fortunately he did, i dont have a PTC).. Another car's occupants that observed the situation just gave me the thumbs up and said "tama yun, wag mo patulan mga ganun" ...

One incident was in Malate when My family (father, mother and driver) and I were looking for a place to eat.. we stopped by wok resto but I think it was closed already, regardless my dad went inside.. Now, two guys (yuppies) were thinking of going also then they noticed the close sign but one guy blurted out "eh bakit pumasok yung tarantadong yun" referring to my dad.. I really stared at them but did not attempt to confront or go near them to instigate a fight.. then one guy went inside his honda accord and pulled out a pistol (I can't figure out the make and the model but it was too big for his hands).. I guess he thought I was going to shoot out laser beams from my eyes or he got scared because we came out from a red plate vehicle (wala po kaming wangwang, we came from my dad's xmas party and decided for a midnight snack before going home ) and our driver has the body guard look (mukhang thug kasi pero harmless).. Buti na lang, di napansin ng tatay ko at ako lang nakakita.. But i was fuming mad inside after he pulled out that gun, they made the remark and they had the temerity to be angry about it...

These two incidents happened several years ago, but they are grim reminders of how things can get nasty out there...

Anybody who draws and displays a gun, or claims to have one, without being absolutely justified, that is, a clear and present danger to life and limb that has to be defended against, loses all moral standing and is lower than the dust.

One time I was in a bus in Cubao going up the overpass to Philcoa, and I observed in the underpass this Land Cruiser running fast attempting to cut in front of an aluminum van; he didn't make it, they hit. Then the driver of the LC got out and tucked a .45 in his waist before going to accost the van's driver. That was the last I saw as our bus moved away. Mukhang pulis... Best I could wish for him is for his .45 to go off and remove his manhood...

And in my last visit to Manila I had my own wang-wang experience, we were near Nagtahan and this little convoy was snaking its way through traffic while we common folk were stuck.

Last Saturday's Philippine Star really brought a chuckle from me, with a picture of the Presidential convoy stuck in Quezon Avenue. I hope P-Noy now knows what causes traffic there, those infernal u-turns and jeepneys.

I'd like to have P-Noy pass through the traffic nightmare called UN Avenue, especially the portion west of Taft, and to experience getting stuck behind a pedicab with a seemingly deaf driver. Where the yellow-shirted traffic enforcers are conspicuous by their absence, no thanks to the present city administration.

It becomes a bottleneck every minute. Eh "matigas nga ulo"...ayun sa kangkungan siya pinulot.

Bumagsak ba sa No.4 man lang yung UNGAS?
