I would recommend checking with your department to see what restrictions you may have on a personal patrol rifle.

I agree. My agency prohibits any auto weapons for other than SWAT.
See my reply also on your thread Here (http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=353823&page=1)
Why M4? Is there something you can hang on an M4 profile only; other than a grenade launcher?
Why 552 instead of 512? Have or planning on night vision?
Isnt NY a bit persnickity about NFA weapons?
I guess we could hang a variation of our 40mm non-leathal baton round launcher off an M4 profile ...
Never know when you might need nightvision. Maybe hunting varmints?
NY seems persnickity about everything.
Anyways, I don't know of many companies that sell patrol/tac carbines ready to roll out the door like the RRA. I just got a S&W M&P15A and it looks like it will be a good base for a moderately tricked out patrol carbine.
As for Full-Auto/Burst ... my Agency does not let us have them anymore. We had FA M16A1s for a long time, but when we got a new armorer he decided in his infinite wisdom road troops were not skilled enough for it. So now we get semi only, but to be honest I can't think of many situations were I need FA on the road. I have to account for every round, and while it was fun at the range, FA on the road would be a pain in the ass if 5 of my 8 round burst went elsewhere. I would guess to get it you would need department letterhead, and to speak directly with RRA, Bushmaster, S&W, etc.

A good dealer can supply all of the accessories you seek in a complete package.
Here's a handy reference chart on the various manufacturers as you consider your options.
There are no I/O transferrable RRA-GMs. The most you could hope for is getting a DIAS for whatever you buy.

The weapon would have to stay with your dept when you left... You couldn't keep it if you got it select fire. Is that something you are willing to do?
I wouldn't think it would be worth it, if you are paying for it, get something that is yours when you stop working in LE.
The price diffrence is only $50 on the sight, so I may in the future use night vision. pluse I can get a RRA govt model at cost and these are the standard features. I already have a Bushmaster A3 standard ar and I love it.I would go with another but I would like to get one all together already.

I would seriously look at LMT. I have T&E'd a lot of rifles and they were head and shoulders above the rest.
Where could I purchase one of these lmt rifles?

You can purchase direct from LMT with LE pricing. You need to however register with them to receive said LE pricing. The LE pricing isn't that drastic either. It's about 20 bucks off an upper and the same off a lower. You have to mix and match though which isn't all that bad and they give you the option of purchasing handguards so you are wasting money on parts you don't need.
