View Full Version : South Carolina Highway Patrol goes GAP !!! Rusty Phillips 12-15-2007, 11:16 long rumored - finally a post from someone in the SCHP http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9448507&posted=1#post9448507 chad745 12-15-2007, 14:10 And another one down. A round that is an answer to a question not asked? I'm growing weary of hearing folks saying the round is impotent or useless. I believe its a very important round, for this reason primarily, I get a 45 in the chassis of a G26. Period. Screw em all. The list of departments using these "useless" rounds is growing... Skintop911 12-15-2007, 15:03 And another one down. The list of agencies using several other calibers is growing. Which means little, without contemplation of total numbers, scale, context, and all the nuances of selection processes. chad745 12-15-2007, 21:37 I'm sure you're right, but none of those other calibers gets picked on as much. kim1911 01-09-2008, 11:26 I'm glad to hear more agencies are adopting the .45 GAPs. I don't understand why these "answers to questions not asked" people and why they're so stressed over the GAP. When cell phones shrink but perform the same or better, do they argue about that too? My daily carry is my G29, but I really want a G37. I seem to be attracted to the less popular calibers, but the only way to make 'em popular is to buy them, right? DannyR 01-09-2008, 19:41 That's four State Police agencies using the GAP: NY PA GA SC WIG19 01-16-2008, 07:57 I'm growing weary of hearing folks saying the round is impotent or useless.I've yet to hear of someone volunteering themselves to be the subject of a simulated-gelatin test. ML Roak 01-16-2008, 20:11 I wasn't convinced until I shot Boge's. I'm now a "Gapper". Sold my G22 and bought one of the CDNN 37s. I've had the flu since Sunday and haven't been able to shoot it yet. Worst part was that I had buy a new holster for my duty belt. I know in the new recruit class for Des Moines PD there are half a dozen or so shooting Gaps. See ya, obxemt 01-26-2008, 15:51 And another one down. A round that is an answer to a question not asked? I'm growing weary of hearing folks saying the round is impotent or useless. I've typed those exact words about questions not asked on this very forum, so I don't know if that's a reference to me or not; but I've got a guilty conscience now, so I thought I'd address it. :) Even if you weren't referring to me, I don't mean that sentiment quite the way you've taken it. I don't have issues with the .45 GAP (although I truly do think Glock would have been better off stuffing an ACP in there somehow!). As a former police officer, I don't/didn't understand why relatively new guns in quite effective calibers (.40/.357) were being replaced already by state police agencies like Georgia and South Carolina. Even though I'm a 9mm fan, NY had their 9mms for quite some time and could justify a switch in caliber, and Pennsylvania DEFINITELY needed to replace their Berettas, so God bless 'em for any choice. I have a feeling that Glock gave SC and GA one hell of a deal just to get the caliber in more widespread use - but that's not a criticism of the round. Hell, it really isn't a criticism, just an observation. It might have been a waste of taxpayer money to replace guns that might not have needed replacing, but that's an entirely separate issue. It was later explained to me that procurement for large state agencies is screwy and they take what they can get when they can get it - and that makes some sense - but I'm sure Glock's likely cheap slutting-out of the .45 GAP was a strong motivator for those agencies. I definitely don't think it's "impotent or useless." I bought the first G38 that arrived at my dealer whenever they first came out. I wish I had kept it, and I'm shopping again for something in the caliber. chad745 01-27-2008, 08:19 Obxemt, I don't ever remember reading you saying that, but since you're a GAPer, I would go easy on you anyway, because YOU KNOW! It's people who DON'T KNOW, that feel they are qualified to say it's a dead round and is useless. OK, let's say Glock is slutting the GAP out. I can't believe a police department would buy a GAP gun if they knew the ammunition was wimpy and ineffective. I'm sure they did thier homework. I'm sure they evaluated the GAP for what it was and how useful it would be. Then, they probably considered the price, in that order! That's what I did.
